    Xbox Apps not displaying

    Hi there

In the past couple of days my Xbox One has started to have an odd issue where it boots up fine but suddenly I get a black screen.

Now before you mention the classic power it down, wait and reboot approach to fixing this kind of thing this issue is slightly different, plus those fixes haven't working for this unfortunately.

What I'm finding is I get the green start screen and the bottom "Hi" message appearing but after that the home page doesn't appear. Yet, if I hold down the home button on my controller I get the shutdown, restart options appearing fine. Inserting a game shows me the bottom prompt to launch it and my Kinect is showing its notification in the top right for when I ask for apps to be launched etc. Those apps never appear though and I hear nothing to indicate they have.

Like someone walking around in the dark trying to find a light switch, I've also managed to turn the accessibility narrator on through the shut down screen but trying to then move gives me no indication there's anything there that I just can't see. I can't get into the settings screens because of this also.

Things I've tried so far are:

    - Powered it down and unplug it for a long-period of time.

    - Taken any discs out before booting it up

    - Left it running for an hour just in case there's any system updates being installed, I just can't see if there are.

    - Blocking the wifi access to see if there's a possible network issue.

Has anyone else heard of this issue before and if so how did you fix it?

    Thanks

    James

    :)

Hi Clarkee21! My name is Ricardo an independent advisor ready to help you with this situation!

You need to do a factory reset, but as you can't see the config settings on your console you will need to do it like this, on your Xbox console:

Unplug the network cable if you're using a wired network connection.

Power off your console, and then unplug the power cord to ensure that the console is completely powered off.

Wait 30 seconds, and then plug the power cord back in.

Press and hold the Pair button (located on the left side of the console) and the EJECT button (located on the front of the console), and then press the Xbox button on the console.

***** The Xbox All-Digital Edition does not have an EJECT button. On this console you only need to hold the Pair button (steps 5 & 6) and then press the Xbox button .

Continue holding the Pair and EJECT buttons for 10-15 seconds.

Listen for two "power-up" tones a couple of seconds apart.

***Note If you don't hear two power-up tones after 15 seconds, it means this failed. Likewise, if you hear any "power-down" chirps, that also means this failed.

You can release the Pair and EJECT buttons after the second power-up tone.

Once the console restarts, you should see the digital setup experience to guide you through resetting your console.

***Note The console restart may take several minutes. If you’re using a wired connection, plug your network cable back into the console. If you have never connected your console to the internet, you will need to connect at least once during the system setup process.

    Hello @Clarkee21!

With issues like these, we recommend attempting a Soft Factory Rest by selecting Reset and keep my games & apps. This will reset the OS and delete all potentially corrupted data (which can be the cause of the issue you are experiencing) without deleting your games or apps.

Note: please be aware that you need to be completely aware of the email address as well as the password of your account before going for it because it will require you to sign in to the account.

If you have access to the settings:

    1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
    2. Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Console info.
    3. Select Reset console.
    4. On the Reset your console? screen, you'll see three options: Select Reset and keep my games & apps.
If your console is stuck on a start-up animation screen (shown above), you can Reset your console from the Xbox Start-up Trouble-shooter.:

    1. Power off your console, and then unplug the mains lead to ensure that the console is completely powered off.
    2. Wait 30 seconds, and then plug the mains lead back in.
    3. Press and hold the Pair button (located on the left side of the console) and the Eject button (located on the front of the console), and then press the Xbox button on the console.
    4. Continue holding the Pair and Eject buttons for 10-15 seconds.
    5. Listen for two “power-up” tones a couple of seconds apart. You can release the Pair and Eject buttons after the second power-up tone.
    6. The console should power up and take you directly to the Xbox Start-up Trouble-shooter.
However, if this does not fix the issue, we suggest Performing an offline system update .

Please give this troubleshooting steps a try and let us know how it goes!

I hope this helps you out!

What happened to the Wireless Display app? (Or "how can I project my Surface Pro screen onto my TV via Xbox one?")

The Wireless Display app is still being tested in the preview program. No word on when it will be released to the public. You need that app in order to project the display to the Xbox through miracast.
