Xbox apps don't work without Xbox live.

The Xbox One was sold to me with the promise that it is will replace all the other devices in my living room. The problem with this sales pitch is that nothing works unless Xbox live is running. Christmas day December 25th 2014 my Xbox live service
was being hacked which essentially made my Xbox useless for the entire day. I was no longer able to access services that I pay for such as Netflix and Amazon prime.

Because the Xbox live service went down my Xbox became as useful as brick. I ask why does Xbox require that I am logged in to there site to receive separate services that I pay for, like Netflix and Amazon prime? There is no reason for this, you can easily
separate the software so it runs strictly on the Xbox and not through your site like any other DVD player do. It is bull, and I am super disappointed with Xbox. This issue will effect my future console purchasing decisions.

I paid a lot of money for this thing, and on Christmas day you Microsoft did not fulfill your promises. To add insult to injury the X-box site should have explained in large Text that you are being hacked, and it will take some time to fix the problem. Instead
I was met with a site that looked normal and only after signing in and doing some searching I found tiny red 9 point font that Xbox live is not available.

Netflix and Amazon Prime, one account 2 xbox. Help

Hi all

I have two xbox one and want to be able to watch Netflix or amazon prim on one xbox and play games on the other at the same time, the problem is I can not run the apps without a xbox live account and I can not sign in as I am already signed in on the one I play games.

why can I not sign into the apps without a xbox live account as this is annoying and I just can not get this to work

In order to utilize an app like Netflix you must be connected to the Internet. That's how the applications work and stream movies and shows. These apps are availed for Xbox Live Gold members only, so they can't seperate the apps from being logged into your
account because it would give all unpaying members access to the premium applications.

On Christmas Xbox was not "hacked". They were attacked with a DDOS. That stands for "distribution denial of service. What was happening was the Xbox Live service, and PSN included, were being engulfed with false traffic from multiple sources overwhelming
the servers. Thusly this creates havoc making actual players unable to connect or stay connected to the gaming servers.

 

I appreciate the response, but it kind of misses the point. Yes I do need to connect to the internet to receive services like Netflix and Amazone prime. And my Xbox was connected to the internet. The real issue is that I have to be signed in to Xbox's website
to view Netflix. I have a blue ray player in another room that had no problem getting Netflix the day Xbox's site was being “Hacked” or attacked or whatever you want to call it. My point is I should not have to be logged in to Xbox live to receive separate
service that I pay for. The idea is this product is supposed to replace all the devices in my living room, but not being able to access services that I pay for because Xbox's website is having problems is a bunch of malarkey. I hope this issue is resolved
in future software revisions

 

I agree with OP, its a joke that you need to be logged on to Live to use Netflix or other apps. I couldn't even use BBC iplayer which is free to everyone regardless of Gold sub.

 

It`s a console, not a PC. All apps are supplied through the XBL service, which is why you need to be logged in with a gold account.

 

Live is only for authentication, after that the apps connect to the various 3rd party services. These are not delivered through the xbox live network. That's why if you are already logged in and live goes down you can still use 3rd party apps.

 

No you can't Kilbaba. On the 360 and the One if Live goes down then the app 'pauses' until you sign back in.

Had that happen to me over Christmas when Live was under DDoS attack.
