Xbox app won't start for child account, but does for admin (parent) account.

    Hi!

I have an interesting issue that makes me think I am either doing something wrong, or there is a bug: I want to be able to run the Xbox app in windows under a child account (part of a family group).

When I run it under the child account it states that it needs to install gaming services. If I click that it opens the app store at the gaming services page. I click install and get the error 0x80073CFB. I suspect this is because the gaming services are already installed and running (checked in services).

Why I think it maybe a bug; It happens exactly the same way on two different machines, and it works fine for my account on both machines (I’m the admin).

    I have tried:

    - Changing the child’s effective age to 18.

    - Windows update (the machines are – as of today – as up to date as they can be).

    - DISM/SCF.

    - Chkdsk.

    - Repair and clear cache in apps.

    - Updated in app store.

    - Used powershell to remove and reinstall the games service.

    - DISM/SCF (again – to be sure).

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Xbox app won't start for child account, but does for admin (parent) account.

    Hi, PaulzSAL

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

According to your description, there is a problem between accounts on your computer. The Xbox program can be used normally in the parent account (administrator), but it cannot be used normally in the child account, and it shows that the game service is missing.

This is indeed very strange. I suggest that you check the following content restrictions first to see if your account provides incorrect content restrictions, causing your child's account to be unable to use the Xbox program:

Manage a member’s content in the Xbox Family Settings app | Xbox Support

If it doesn't work, I suggest you try to create a new local administrator account and see if the problem occurs in the new account. Don't log in to your son's Xbox (Microsoft) account in the system first, open the Xbox directly, and then log in to your son's account to see if the problem occurs in the same way.

    Create a new local account:

Manage User Accounts in Windows - Microsoft Support

If this is also the case with the new local account, try to switch to your own account.

    See if it is normal.

Waiting for your latest progress, and we will continue to provide you with help and support.

    Best Regards,

bought Xbox for kids, created a live account on my name

You can create a child account and link it to your account as a parent account. This can be very beneficial as you can set rules and limitations for your child so that they require your permission to do things like accept friend requests or change account
    info.

Please note that a gold account would have to be purchased for the child account. If the parent account has gold it does not filter down. The parent account does not require a gold account unless the parent wants to do live chat, play multiplayer or use
    apps like netflix.

Xbox One Turns Off When I Try to Sign In

you have this problem because your account is a child account and that doesn't have an admin account to it anymore. For some reason, with the new dashboard the console will not allow you to access your child account unless you have a parental attached to
it. So, add a parental account and the problem is solved :D.

How to stop a child purchasing games

Microsoft does not require a credit card be attached to a child's account. In fact most of them time support staff tells parents to create a child account when this issue comes up so that there won't be a credit card on file.

Hello, if your account is seen as a child's account and is under a parent account the insider program most probably won't let you join without the parent account
