Xbox App trying to install on C: although D: is selected as installation drive

    Hey all,

I have trouble installing ANY game on my SSD D: drive. The Xbox App always tries to install any game on C: instead. Please look at the screenshots:

As you can see it says that there is not enough space on the drive, although the drive has 288GB free space which should be more than enough for the 99GB download of the Master Chief Collection.

Any help is greatly appreciated, this whole issue is keeping me from installing ANY game that is bigger than whats free on my C: drive.

    :)

Installing Games/Apps onto D Drive through Xbox app/Windows Store

I am trying to install games and apps onto my D drive instead of C drive through the Xbox app and Windows store on Game pass.

I have set the default drive to install apps to through Windows settings

I have set the default drive through the Xbox app settings

I get a notification when going to install the game, asking which drive to install to, and instruct it to install to the D drive

Every time though, it ignores this and installs to me C drive.

If I try to move the app through settings, the "Moving" notification and progress bar appears for a split second before disappearing, with no error information, but not having moved the file.

There are some apps that are installed on my D drive, and the pattern seems to be apps that require Admin approval are the ones not install onto my D drive.

Could someone try and resolve the issue, as it's incredibly frustrating for a service that is no longer in beta.

    Xbox PC 0x80073D0D Error

So after uninstallig Gaming service and Xbox, reinstalling it nothing changed. I went ahead and tried installing the game on my C drive and it would download. so I started searching for "Xbox won't install on D Drive" and found

Xbox (Beta) app don't download on D drive

Bos Nuka Knight:Hello, sorry to hear your having problems. Try the following for a fix and let me know if you have any luck.
    • When starting the game installation from the Xbox (Beta) app you have the option of changing where content will be stored by selecting the hard drive you want to install to. If you see the message “Selected drive is not set up to install games,” your drive is not provisioned and installation access is denied. To fix this:
      • Either select the link under the message to go to Settings, or press the Windows key and selecting Settings > System > Storage. Select Change where new content is saved.
      • Using the menu under Where apps will be saved to, choose the drive you want.

after changing this setting Xbox no longer gives me the option to install on C drive witch is fine but will now install on my D Drive.

How to install sea of thieves If there wont ever be enough space on C drive

Thank you for contact us! I'm Anderson, an Independent Consultant and a Microsoft user like you.

    good evening

You can try the following steps to install Sea of Thieves on a different drive:

Create a symbolic link (also known as a "junctions") between the folder where Windows Store installs apps on the C drive, and a folder on the D drive. This tricks the Windows Store into thinking the app is installed on the C drive, when it's actually on the D drive.

Uninstall Sea of Thieves from the Windows Store, if it's already installed.

Open an elevated Command Prompt window (right-click the Start button and select "Command Prompt (Admin)").

Run the following command to create a symbolic link:

    mklink /J "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.SeaOfThieves_1.0.29.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe" "D:\SeaOfThieves"

Close the Command Prompt window and open the Windows Store app.

Reinstall Sea of Thieves and it should install to the D drive, using the symbolic link created in step 4.

This should resolve your issue and allow you to install Sea of Thieves on the D drive.

Error code: 0x80073d13 (Xbox Game Pass PC Beta)

I had drive D configured for apps installation/games installation until i started getting this error. I change to C: but kept getting the same error.

For me what worked was to change the drive letter from D to E and then it worked correctly on C:

Something gets stuck trying to use drive D so remove it or reassign drive letter.

xbox game pass full lag and error

It sounds like you are having trouble installing games from the Xbox Game Pass on your D drive.

Make sure that you have enough free space on your D drive to install the games.

Check if there are any updates available for the Xbox Game Pass app and install them.

Try resetting the Xbox Game Pass app:

On your Xbox One console, go to "My games and apps"

Navigate to the Xbox Game Pass app and press the "Menu" button on your controller.

Select "Manage app" and then "Reset".

Confirm the reset and try installing the game again.

If none of the above steps help, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the Xbox Game Pass app. Make sure to select the D drive as the installation location when you reinstall it.
