  1. Xbox App Stream from Xbox One issues

I consistently have issues with streaming from my Xbox One. Some days it works, but most days it does not. The most common issue I see is the "We couldn't connect to your console. Make sure the console is still on and connected to the same network as this
    device."

I am actually considering purchasing a second Xbox so my girlfriend and I can play games like Destiny together, but this would mean one of us (likely me) would have to stream. The fact that streaming is totally unreliable makes this a difficult purchase.

We have multiple laptops in the house, and each exhibit the issue at various times. Some times I can flip between a few laptops and one of them will work, but most times, if one does not work, none will work.

This has been an ongoing issue for MONTHS and I have researched this issue many times, and always come up short.

Steps I have taken to troubleshoot:

    Hard restarting xbox

    Restarting laptop

    Restarting Modem

    Installing the beta xbox app

Uninstalling via powershell the xbox app (and the beta app), and reinstalling from the Store

    Resetting modem to factory

Removing my profile from the game and re-adding.

Changing the name of my xbox (saw this one on some forum that I forget now, but didn't help me)

Typing the IP address of my xbox instead of letting it search

removing the xbox connection from the app and re-searching.

Installing the xbox app (and beta app) and attempting to connect on multiple computers.

Setting up a separate SSID for my 5 and 2.4 GHZ wireless bands.

Connecting both laptop and xbox to a physical network connection.

Set my NAT to public (I know this is more related to party/multiplayer, but one random forum post suggested it anyways).

    Updating to latest Xbox app

    Install all latest windows updates.

Standing on one foot, spinning, dancing, and chanting "ooooommmmPLEASEWORKPLEASEWORKooooommmm", repeating this step
exactly 7.5 times in a row.

This is a constant source of frustration and stress for an activity that should be fun and allow me to escape.

    HALP! Thanks.

    :)

    Sky go to xbox one

But that's not an XBOX one issue, it is a Sky Go issue. Sky do not like you sending to other devices. Can you stream Sky Go through the browser though?

Finally got around to trying out Plex on the Xbox One. Impressed so far. Great little app to have to stream movies from my Mac to the Xbox One in the living room.

    Hey DubiousDvorak,

I think I see the issue: you didn't repeat the last step 8.5 times.

I see you say you're on the latest version of Windows. Can you check to make sure you're on the Win 10 Anniversary update? Report back here if you are.

    Thanks,

  5. Both actually. My primary machine is still on build 1511, 10.0.10586 (it's running CBB update model), with the latest updates per CBB release schedule, but one of the machines I also see the issue with is on the Anniversary update 1607.

  6. Oh, and I should add:

Of all the troubleshooting steps above, the only that will SOMETIMES make a difference are the "hard restart xbox", and the "powershell uninstall/reinstall from store" steps.

I usually attempt the uninstall/reinstall first, if that fails, hard reset. Sometimes it's resolved with the uninstall/reinstall, other times with the hard reset. Usually, unfortunately, neither work however and then everything down the list do not change
    the scenario.

    I appreciate any guidance!

    I'm with you, Dvorak.

The App and the Box definitely have communication issues.

We DO have 2 Xboxes here and what I observed is, that for example Box1 is up and running, kids play on TV.

I fire up Box2 and want to stream to my Desktop-PC. That goes well maybe for 10 minutes, then its loses connection. From that point onward the timespans between reconnect and connection lost get shorter and shorter each time. After an hour its like 3-5s.

Since I log in via smartglass app I can watch the connectionstatus there. There seems to be a refresh cycle and It looks to me the Box gets confused upon that. If just Box2 is up and running it just "forgets" where its supposed to be connected to. If both
Boxes are up it seems to be even more confusing as the disconnect frequency only grows then.

Kinda noteworthy: In the smartglass app, specifically in the list of all Boxes found in the network, each individual Box there has an option for "auto-connect". Now I obviously dont want to autoconnect to Box1. But even though you can uncheck that option,
its still marked as checked when you reopen that "boxes in the network"-list.

If i leave smartglass completely away and manually log in on the box, it doesnt work most of the time either, I get stuck at "You need to be logged in to stream" yadda yada-thingy.

I have no Idea what went wrong here. Given the fact that so many people have this issue I cant believe this made it through Q&A.

I'm not a couch type player. I bought the Box because of exclusive content, but only after the Win 10 streaming feature was announced.

As of now my Box is unusable.

    Hey all,

The first step is to turn the Xbox to power-saving mode and see if the problem goes away. If you're using the beta app, file feedback. Be as clear and detailed as possible.

    Thanks,

Thanks for the response, but let me make an honest question please.

I understand the approach to keep everything more and more simple, more accessible etc in order to reach out to more casual people.

But why does this include error-handling? How on earth I am supposed to give any meaningful information when there is virtually NO exception handling other than those generic "Please try again"-Popups?

There is no logging, no error codes ... nothing. I have no clue if the app threw the execption because of a connection-reset or if it just listens on a wrong port because there is some typo in the code.

Computers get more and more technical, people that use them should at least have AN OPTION to get more detailed information presented, if they want to have that.

Instead of tackling the issue right away we then sit in forums for hours debating about what *might have happened*

And of course, you, the customer support, always have to start at the very basic "turn off, reset" etc ...every.....friggin....time.

I dont get it, why so many programmers these days complicate their lives that way.

Heck, I cant even find an obvious link to a changelog for the Apps .... duh

sorry, for the rant, but...I hope you see my point.

  10. I have tried the step "to turn the Xbox to power-saving mode and see if the problem goes away" many times, and most of the time, it does not resolve.

My apologies if I have submitted my support issue in the wrong spot. I'll submit this through the xbox beta app as well if that makes it easier, but I thought this forum was for support.

Is there anything else I can try, or steps you can offer for me to collect further diagnostics? There's a sticky post in this forum about this issue that was posted in April. I find it shocking that this is a known and announced issue for this long without
    any fixes.

  11. As far as I know, the issues have been addressed. That's why it's important to file feedback with the Xbox beta app.

Honestly, I don't know what else to tell you besides start looking at antivirus and the firewall. Are you using a a special antivirus? What happens if you turn the quality down?

Yesterday I tried again after not having touched the box since my last post.

There was both an update on the app and the box. After having patched both I was able to streamplay for multiple hours without any issues.

So, whatever was wrong you must have fixed it and it wasnt on our end.

That said, while this thread essentially (for now) is obsolete... I don't know anything. I understand that customers just want their stuff functioning, thats however not how I operate. I want to understand what exactly caused the error. This is purely for
    self education.

See it from that standpoint: In order to provide exact, precise information and feedback to you guys, one must have some sort of understanding how things function, interact etc.

While I am happy that things are working again, I still dont know what the issue was. I dont know the error and there is no information on the fix.

If this trend is keep going software developement will hit a wall somewhere going down the road.

    thanks for listening

Xbox App Stream from Xbox One issues

Oh I forgot to answer your question above Xbox App Stream from Xbox One issues ;)

I've tested this with AV (avast) being shut down completely. Also it didnt matter what quality I chose, low, med, very high....all the same, connection just reset somewhen.

This is exactly what I talked about the days before. Your software guys didnt include ANY exception handling, not even some cryptic error code one could eventually google up. I have no idea which method in your code errored out and therefore I'm stuck at
sitting in the forums, answering redundant (from my POV) questions and waiting. I hope you understand that this isnt meant to be rude or something, I just hope you get my point Xbox App Stream from Xbox One issues :)

    Xbox1 streaming - works sometimes.

    My set up-

I have 4 xbox1's all connected via ethernet wire (cat 5e or >)

(2 xbox1's) are connected via netgear gigabit switch

(2 xbox1's) go directly to gigabit router.

2 computers also connected via gigabit switch.

both computers have gigabit network cards.

    Problem:

Has been working great up until about one week ago. Now randomly getting network connection problems. I was running at medium quality, and then set to low quality but still no difference.

Ran stream test from windows 10 xbox1 app and got 4 green check marks.

Tried restarting all units connected, changed out patch cables to cat 6, changed old gigabit switch to new netgear gigabit switch to match gigabit router.

Frustrating how it works then it does not... Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Wireless Display app refuses to connect to PC

No, it's not the game streaming that's not working. I've never had an issue streaming with the Xbox app on PC. It's the new Wireless Display app on Xbox One that I'm having the issue with. My PC just will not connect to it.
