xbox app parties don’t work

i use the xbox app to join parties when i get into groups on overwatch for competitive play. im saving up to buy a headset but currently my only option is to use my airpods through my ipad or iphone on the app. for a while i have not been able to join parties
because when i try, the app says i need to update the app to access parties or something along those lines. when i check the app store, there is no update and there is no software update for my ipad or iphone. this has happened many times in the past and it
doesnt usually get fixed until the app gets an actual update. i have unistalled and reinstalled five times to no avail.
