    Hi,

I am trying to change where Xbox app installs games by default but I'm getting the message "The folder you selected isn't on (C[Xbox app on Windows 11] Not able to change game directory :). Select a folder on (C[Xbox app on Windows 11] Not able to change game directory :) to continue." whenever I try to choose my second SSD drive (D[Xbox app on Windows 11] Not able to change game directory :).

...so I tried to change the Storage settings on Windows 11 but I can't see my (D[Xbox app on Windows 11] Not able to change game directory :) drive when I click on the combo boxes:

[Xbox app on Windows 11] Not able to change game directory [IMG]

I can normally use and see my (D[Xbox app on Windows 11] Not able to change game directory :) drive on File Explorer and on Disk Management though:

    My system:

    - Alienware M15 R7 laptop

    - Windows 11 Business Version 21H2

Anyone have some toughs of what in Earth is going on here, please?

    Thanks in advance!

    :)

Sorry I'm late answering you, but I was trying what you suggested and other stuff, unfortunately with no success.

Well let's see there still is maybe some more things we can try. First let me ask, did you yourself actually encrypt the drive on the PC? Is this something that you manually enabled yourself? If you haven't already, I know it sounds simple, but if you remember the process you did, I would imagine just try to go reverse the drive encryption process.

In fact, it was activating BitLocker that drives were encrypted, but even turning it off I was not able to choose my (D:) drive as the default for new content.

Okay next thing I would like to know, are you able to install apps/games at all? On any drive? Does it let you do this? If so, does it only let you install to the C: drive? Do you get any pop ups/UAC warning messages?

Yes I am able to install apps/games in both drives. For example, Steam app is installed on (D:) drive. And yesterday I tried to install Skyrim on (D:) drive with no problem (using Steam).

Okay next thing! If you are able to install any app or game, open the Settings > Apps > and then find the app/game you just installed (or any other previously installed apps/games) and if you click the "three dots" drop down menu, you should see a "Move" option. Does it let you select this and move the selected content to another drive?

I have tried that but "Move" option is always unavailable:

Finally let's try to check one more area. I hope this might be it here! Hit Start and open the Control Panel.
(You can just hit Start and start typing "control panel" should show up quick.)

When the Control Panel is open, in the top right search bar, type "bitlocker" (no quotes) and click the BitLocker Drive Encryption What settings do you see there? I am hoping this might fix your issue and hopefully you should see the drive D: and are able to Turn off BitLocker there for drive D:

As I said before, even turning off BitLocker my (D:) drive was not shown on the "Where new content is saved" screen :(

Then probably have to restart the PC and check if it lets you change the drive shown in the 2nd picture of your original post under the Settings > System > Storage > Where new content is saved

Hope this might get us somewhere or at least some new info to work with of the issue.
Well I think I am just gonna stay with Steam only, too bad Microsoft make some simple things like these so complicated!

I really appreciate your help! You're a great person! :)

    Take care!

Ah I am sorry that didn't fix it. And thank you. Yes, I am hoping maybe we can still get it solved.

Well, I'm still confident the drive encryption has to be the root of the problem here.

I wish I could tell you a little more about the drive encryption, but I have never had a drive with those settings, so again I am sorry I am unfamiliar with it.

The drive encryption settings, I believe you can find that by going to the following:
    Open File Explorer
Navigate to your targeted destination folder that you wish to save content to
Right-click the destination folder and choose Properties
In the General Tab, click the Advanced button
At the bottom check the section "Compress or Encrypt attributes" and untick the "Encrypt contents to secure data"

You may have to restart the PC. Afterwhich, retry the initial process to change the folder where content is saved.

Let me know if this helps! Hope that might be the issue!
    Hi XEvoUmbreonX!

I really appreciate your time trying to help me out with that issue!

I've tried what you said but the checkbox "Encrypt contents to secure data" was already unticked. By the way, drive (C:) is also encrypted.

Do you know it that is any other policy that could prevent me to change the Windows Storage option "Where new content is saved"?

I have tried to force disabling the following one but with no success either 😕

    Thank you again!

    Hi Fernando,

Let me start off by stating I am not a support team member.

I saw your post here and I actually want to know the answer to this as well!

I see you have gone to the right spots to indeed change where content is saved, and it does look like it still gives you that issue.
I am glad you posted those pictures for further analysis of what is going on here. Now I am no expert, but the first thing that stands out immediately to me is that your drive D: appears to be encrypted based off the last photo you presented. From what I understand, it seems apps have some sort of an issue when trying to point the destination to a drive path that is either encrypted or compressed. That has to be why in your first image it is showing that message. So, what you can try is to temporally disable the targeted drive encryption and retry the process to change the folder again.

I have a question I was wondering if you could tell me how to access the Xbox game bar captures on my mobile device

The game bar captures do not automatically upload to the Xbox Network, so cannot be viewed on the mobile app. You can view them in your videos directory though on Windows 10/11.
