Xbox App on PC not allowing me sign in after Forza Horizon 5 download showing 'ERROR'

I started the download for FH5 through the Xbox App on PC last night, it got to around 47% before being paused and turned off before calling it a night.
I turned my PC on as normal today after work and the download was stuck on 47% with 'ERROR' next to it, each time I tried to resume the install the same error would appear next to the download, no pop up or anything however. Naturally I cancelled the download and tried to restart it and when I did it just gave me the error straight away and that's when I noticed I wasn't signed in to my Microsoft account on the Xbox App.

I am logged in and can log in fine to the Microsoft Store and the Xbox Companion App however. I can't find the Xbox App anywhere on my PC to try uninstalling and reinstalling either, I've tried just about every troubleshoot I can find in forums and threads.

Any tips or actual support from Microsoft would be very good right now.

We understand that you are trying to download Forza Horizon 5 and is unable to because of the game stuck in downloading with an error. Let us check on this together so you will get back to gaming.

May we ask for a screenshot of the issue? Please use this as guide, How to include a screenshot in your post.

Have you tried to reinstall the game? How about on new/different local user profile of the PC?
May we know if the Xbox app does not have any network connectivity issues?
There is actually known issue for the Xbox app and some players are having issues downloading or updating recently released games on Xbox app. Please check update here: Known Issues for Game Launches (November 2021).

All of my Microsoft and Xbox games are downloaded on my external drive including the previous Horizon, which is Forza Horizon 4. I changed where new apps are stored when downloaded from the Microsoft store to my external drive but it still wont download Forza Horizon 5 to my external drive. On the Xbox app it wont show my external drive as an option to download to. I am able to download any game from the Microsoft store and Xbox app to my external drive except Forza Horizon 5.

hey, when i download forza horizon 5 on my pc on the xbox app it says error when it reaches 100%. I have tried re installing the app, repairing it resetting it etc and i still encounter the same issue. Please help me as i have been waiting since november to play this game!

I have reinstalled the xbox game pass app.

It is still showing Forza Horizon 5 as uninstalled.

When attempting to install, it shows 110gb of storage space free (I know that this should be closer to 220-230gb)- suggesting that the failed install from last night is still hogging drive space.

If I try to install Forza Horizon 5 again, it lingers on "preparing install" before failing without any error messages

It seems like there is some corrupt data somewhere that I need to clear both to free up space and allow me to reinstall the game.
