Xbox app loads up, tried to load my friends list then closes

i have did everything i can possibly think of, even a very helpful support agent hit a dead end and his last solution was to post here for a specialist.

i read on a thread from 3 years ago that it was somehow linked to friends list and perhaps too many friends for the app to load so i narrowed my friends list down to 40ish and it still crashes.

all the usual tier 1 troubleshooting didn't work, resetting app, reinstalling, trying beta, windows store troubleshooter etc.

the worst part is - i did a full clean reinstall and it happened instantly after starting the app up for the first time.

another thing to note if anyone has experience with this or if it helps solve my problem because it is DEFINITELY linked.

sea of thieves closed beta - a microsoft play anywhere title - throws up an error that something went wrong when looking for my friends to invite to a game on the pc version, yet i can find friend of friends.

i know deep down that something in my microsoft services is messed up and its causing my friends list to corrupt on pc or something and just throw up errors or close programs (remember this is AFTER a clean install too)

App error?

I have the Xbox One App on iPhone 7. The app will not load. I get the start screen and it instantly closes. I have tried reinstalling the app but the same happens. Any ideas? Seems to work fine on my friends iPhone 7.

 

Can't send messages through the Xbox app

I would load up the app, click on messages and the app would just be stuck loading. It never loads up, and when I try to click on friends list after tapping messages my phone would freeze up. It only happens on one of my accounts, the others work just fine
on the app.

There are several reasons why the Xbox App crashes every time you access your list of friends on Xbox Live. It is possible that the Xbox Live Services are disabled on your PC. To resolve your concern, you may follow the steps below on how to enable the Xbox
Live Services:

1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard and type Services in the search box.
   
2. Once the Services window opens, scroll down and look for Xbox Live Auth Manager,
   Xbox Live Game Save, and Xbox Live Networking Service.
   
3. You have to repeat the steps on each service. Right-click on each service and click
   Properties.
4. Make sure that the Startup type is set to Automatic.
5. If the Service status is stopped, click on Start.
6. Click OK to save the settings.

Another solution is to clear the local Xbox identity data.

1. Open File Explorer and paste the following into the address bar to go to a specific location on your computer:

3. Delete any accounts and cache folders that you can see in this location.
4. Launch the Xbox App and sign in to your account again.

I'm experiencing the same issue with the Xbox App. When I launch, it will close immediately after loading or within seconds. If I quickly click on the PARTIES or MESSAGES tabs it will keep the program open. But if I move back to the FRIENDS LIST or go
into MY CLUBS the program shuts down. I have tried what @DQueenKhaleesi suggested, with option one not fixing it and option two giving me an error message telling me to "Check the spelling and try again." This problem began sometime around January 20th or
21st just after my system ran an unauthorized pre-patch from Microsoft for the "Creators" Update that was pushed onto my system (again, unauthorized) days after the pre-patch and the beginning of the problem.

 

i have did both of these. my packages folder holds the xboxidentityprovider with 8wekyb3d8bbwe and not the name above, don't know if that changes things.

and when i launch the app again i am already logged in.

i used my girlfriends laptop and logged in with her bran new gamertag and it did not crash, i then logged in with my gamertag on her laptop and it crashes.

yes i have my microsoft account as pc log in.

it was chat support that told me to come here for "specialist" help.

i went through 5-6 support chat conversations (no lie) all telling me the level 1 basic troubleshooting methods until the last one actually went through a great deal to help me

 

had a chat with xbox chat staff. no luck. i decided to contact windows live chat who screen shared with me and saw first hand what i am dealing with. they reinstalled my windows which obviously cut the chat off, but na its still
crashing lol

 

Still no fix for this? Lovely. Makes it really hard to team up with Xbox "friends" in the "Sea of Thieves" tests when I can't access my FRIENDS LIST. Also, reinstalling an operating system is never the answer to fixing a problem with a completely unrelated,
unnecessary piece of sholveware...I mean software.

 

nothing yet. forum support tell me to contact live chat for specialist assistance - live chat send me here for specialist assistance. its utterly mind boggling to realize we mean nothing to the people who's product we are having

Yeah. I'm at the point where I'm probably going to ask Rare if they can do something. Heck, there's a chance this is "Sea of Thieves" related any ways so why not.

 

do me a favour and try the xbox app again? i downloaded the closed beta for sea of thieves for that stress test weekend and it actually showed my friends list. now my xbox app is not crashing (hope i dont jynx it)
