Xbox App is broken after trying to install a game

I tried to install Stellaris through the PC Xbox App. The download never actually started so I closed the Xbox app and relaunched it.

Upon loading, the app failed to show my installed games on the left side in the section labeled "Installed". All the games listed there are games that are available through the game pass subscription. There are blank icons instead of game icons. It looks like the app is still trying to load the list. None of the games available through the subscription appear in "My Library" (but games I purchased directly are shown). Also the "Installation Queue" is empty.

In the Microsoft Store App, gamepass games have the option to "Install, Included with Game Pass", even though they are already installed.

I've tried the following:

Logging out of and back in to the Xbox App and the Microsoft Store

Rebooting the computer

Using the Windows Settings Apps & Features to Terminate, Repair, Reset, and Uninstall (then reinstalled through the Microsoft Store).

There is also a folder for an unknown game in the Xbox Games folder on my C drive (incomplete Stellaris install?)

No luck again. I uninstalled, rebooted, then installed with the xboxinstaller.exe but am still having the same problems.

Thank you for the additional information. Let's try to reinstall the app again. After you uninstalled the app, make sure to restart your computer before installing it back.

Unfortunately none of those steps solved the issue. I was able to get gaming services installed but the xbox app still wont show the games. I now have an error banner (the green one) on the bottom of the window. Also the app is now closing itself after about 30 seconds.

I am sorry to hear about the issue. Let's see what we can do about this matter here.

First, check for Windows updates and get all available updates from the Microsoft Store.

Let's also clear the Microsoft Store cache: Press the Windows Logo Key + R to open the Run dialog box, type wsreset.exe, and then select OK.

Scan for any corrupted data on your PC.

If the above solutions don't work, let us reinstall the Gaming Services app on your Windows 10/11 device:
Select the Search icon on the taskbar, type powershell, right-click on Windows PowerShell, and then select Run as administrator.

In Windows PowerShell, type the following command and press Enter:

get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers

In the same window, type the following command and press Enter:

start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN

Install the app on that page and select Yes when you receive the User Account Control (UAC) prompt.
Restart your device and try to install the game again.

I dont think this will be a useful route. This isn't a network issue. It's a file system issue. The xbox app clearly messed up something in my file system when I tried to install a game through it and what ever the problem is left over even after trying reinstalls and so on.

What I need is a walkthrough to remove the xbox app, all associated apps, and ALL associated left over files. I need to fully and completely purge xbox app files from my system to I can cleanly reinstall it. I dont want to have to format my hard drive all because the xbox app has problems but it's more and more looking like I'm going to have to.
