Xbox app freezing when being left open (unused) for a certain length of time

So, the latest versions of the beta and non-beta app STILL have this issue. I'm in a party with a friend, just chatting away and after about 20 minutes or so the app becomes totally unresponsive then it just freezes up and I have to force close it and restart
it.

Why is this not fixed yet? It's honestly really pissing me off now. I am SO fed up of using MS software that feels so half-***. I report it in every version, multiple times, and on here I get the same old "we really appreciate it" corporate speak, but it
never actually gets fixed. This has a huge impact on me just moving to another platform, it really does. If I wasn't tied into Xbox One cos I've spent a fortune on digital games, I would dump this stuff in a heartbeat, because the software side of things really
sucks right now - that's both the Xbox dashboard and this app.

When it crashes I always get Event ID 2482 logged, but sometimes I also get 1002 as well.

It makes the app unusable unless I'm just using it in short bursts, but if I try and use it for a long time, like chatting to friends in a party from my PC, it will just freeze up and crash.

Yep, I'm seeing the same issues with the beta too. I have actually reported all of these issues through the beta recently, but I switched back to using the regular app recently as it has a higher build number than the beta, so I assumed (perhaps incorrectly)
that the regular version was ahead of the beta now and perhaps contained fixes/improvements that are not present in the beta.

I also have issues where notifications stop working. That's been a problem since Windows 10 launched. It works about half the time, but it's like whatever needs to run in the background for this to work also crashes after a while and it's only when I launch
the app manually that the notifications start working again - but only for a while. I still get notifications on my phone via SmartGlass 100% of the time, so it's not an issue with Xbox Live.

I will continue reporting the bugs - and I see that Windows Error Reporting is doing its thing too - but for the last few builds it's always been the same 2 errors appearing in Event Viewer. If you want more info I will try and help as much as I can.

These issues persist in the latest beta.

A couple of other things I've noticed. Often the CPU usage will go up pretty high, to around 20%. When that happens, the app feels sluggish to use. I have a pretty high end PC too (3770K CPU). Also, I've noticed that when my monitor turns off due to inactivity,
often the app will crash at that point and when I move my mouse around to get the monitor to turn back on, the app has crashed and is no longer running.

There is also another issue, where if a person is using the "appear offline" option, if they're in a party you still see the party icon next to their name, so you know that they're online.

I'll keep reporting this stuff through the app.

I can confirm this issue. It has been present since windows 10 launch and feels like it has become more frequent each build. At this time being in a party chat will hang the app for certain after a while, though I will still be able to continue chatting.
In hung state the xboxapp.exe and svchost.exe (remote procedure call) run at around 15% CPU usage EACH (i7 4770K). I have continued running the app for hours in this state to keep chatting but eventually it will crash or I will have to force restart it to
use it for something else. Anyway the app is highly more likely to freeze when in a party chat but does this otherwise too, while not permanently though.

I too have reported this through the beta app.

I've noticed another strange issue with the Xbox app.

I've been using Windows Live Mail for years, and I still use it with Windows 10. Just recently, I've noticed that it sometimes freezes up and stops responding. What happens is, in the main view, I can still see the list of accounts/folders on the left, but
the area showing the list of emails and the preview pane is greyed over. When I try and do anything with the program, it says it's not responding.

This appears to be caused by the Xbox app. Today I had both Windows Live Mail and the Xbox app open. Windows Live Mail started experiencing the issue I mentioned above, and the Xbox app had become its usual sluggish self after being left open for a while,
so I closed the Xbox app and noticed that Windows Live Mail instantly sprang back to life and started working just fine.

 

Hi folks, just wanted to give a heads up. The hanging issue is our top priority right now. We've got a handle on the problem (it's pretty complicated and messy). We're currently working on an update to fix this, but I can't promise any dates right now other
than "soon". And yes, it's possible that the bad behavior may cause other apps to be sluggish as well.

The latest version of the app has all of the problems of the previous versions, but now when you get new activity alerts and it shows the number of new alerts on the activity alerts button, after looking at the alerts, the number no longer disappears and
will remain there until you close and restart the app.

Also, I removed a couple of favourites using the app - I set them as regular friends - but I still get online notifications for those friends, even though I have that set to "favourites only". Whatever I do, I can't seem to stop the online notifications
for those people, which is annoying.

 

I have this issue as well.

Doing nothing all besides starting up the Xbox App and letting it run for awhile, suddenly the XboxApp.exe uses 25% CPU and svchost.exe takes another 25% with RpcSs and RpcEptMapper.

Again, I haven't interacted with the Xbox App at all.

 

Things have definitely improved in the most recent beta, but I'm still having some issues with the app freezing up and crashing - just not as often.

The issue with text input lagging when composing messages appears to have been fixed.

One thing that is still happening, is that sometimes when I have the Xbox app open, if I launch Windows Live Mail it instantly goes to "not responding" and the screen is white, but the moment I close the Xbox app, WLM will immediately unfreeze and start
working properly. An issue with shared code or something? Maybe the spell checking feature? I dunno, but it's weird.

Also, a lot of party/multiplayer icons are missing next to friend's names. Like, I'll know that a friend is in a party playing Rainbow 6 Siege, for example, yet they have no icons next to their name in the friends list to denote that. When I actually click
on their name, I can see that they're in a party playing a multiplayer game. Maybe that's an Xbox Live service issue and not an issue with the app itself though.

Still, things are better than they were!
