Xbox App for PC not allowing me to connect to Xbox Series X Console (Windows 11)

Hi

I have previously been able to stream my Xbox Series X Console to my Windows 11 Laptop without any issue. Normally I would just open the application, click the 'consoles' button at the top of the screen, select my console and everything would start working smoothly. However, over the past couple of weeks, this function appears to have stopped working entirely. Now, whenever I select my console, I get the usual loading screen with the rocket and then a message pops up that says 'Try again in a while. We cannot connect to your console right now'.

Here are a number of steps I have already taken in order to try and resolve this issue:

On PC

- Restarted Internet and Laptop

- Logged out of Microsoft account on laptop and logged back in again

- Uninstalled Xbox app and re-installed

- Reset time and date settings

- Opened settings and ticked 'Enable streaming over metered network'

- Checked for updates in Xbox app

On Xbox Series X

- Turned off all remote cloud gaming options and then reactivated them

- Disconnected from wired internet, onto wireless and back again (neither helped)

- Checked for system updates

It's beginning to get rather frustrating as playing my Xbox on my PC is ideal due to the fact that my console is out in my office and if I use the laptop, I can sit indoors and relax.

Both of them are accessed over the same internet, except my console is wired and the laptop uses my Wi-Fi (which has no real connectivity issues).

Any help would be great.

Hello amramlinebarger, sorry to hear you're having trouble.

The Xbox Console Companion app is mainly for Windows 10 and allows you to stream your Xbox One to One X consoles on Windows 10. This app does not work with the Series X/S consoles though and the Xbox app is recommended for streaming to your PC if you're running Windows 11.

If you are running Windows 11 the only way we'd ask you to try installing the app is if you were having trouble with your Xbox games just to see if that would help.

For anyone else that might experience this, one cause of this may be if you renamed your Xbox.

an update reset the console name to default.

Simply renaming it back to match what is in the Windows Xbox app may resolve this issue.

it woud be nice if you could change the name in the Windows app, but for some weird reason you can't.

Hi there iMikeeeyyy welcome to the community forum! Christopher here, an Xbox fan just like you and has been on Xbox for years already. I would really love to make your day by helping you out. Please try this on your PC:

Open the Settings app it is the gear in the start menu.

Open Accounts

Click Sign-in Options

Scroll down to Privacy

Uncheck "Use my sign-in info to automatically finish setting up my device and reopen my apps after an update and restart."

Restart your PC!

Then this on your console:

Open the Xbox Guide by pressing the guide button on the controller and select

Settings.

Select Network Settings.

Select Advanced Settings.

Under Change Settings select Alternate MAC Address.

Select Clear.

Allow the console to restart when prompted.

Please let us know if that worked!

No, the only way is to connect the controller to an Xbox console or Windows 10/11 PC with the Xbox Accessories app installed.

I can see that you are having trouble with the cast function to stream to your Xbox Series X in Windows 11. Please try the following steps to troubleshoot the problem:

1. Make sure your Xbox Series X and your Windows 11 device are connected to the same network and have the latest updates installed.

2. On your Windows 11 device, open the Settings app and go to Devices > Bluetooth & other devices > Add device > Wireless display or dock.

3. Select your Xbox Series X from the list of available devices and follow the on-screen instructions to pair it with your Windows 11 device.

4. On your Xbox Series X, press the Xbox button on your controller and go to Profile & system > Settings > Devices & connections > Remote features.

5. Enable Allow game streaming to other devices and Allow connections from any device.

6. On your Windows 11 device, open the app or content that you want to stream and click on the cast icon in the top right corner.

7. Select your Xbox Series X from the list of available devices and enjoy your streaming experience.

To stream from a live streaming provider on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, download the app for the provider you want to use. Press the Xbox button to open the guide and select Store > Apps. Find and select the app, and then select Install.
