  1. Xbox App for PC has filled my C:\ Drive with ghost installation files

Title pretty much says it all.

I purchased Game Pass for my family across 3 PCs primarily to play State of Decay 2. However, seeing that I was paying for a service, I decided to grab up a few games that I liked/owned in the past (like Ark, Resident Evil games, Final Fantasy VII and IX, etc.).
I was quite happy until I got a notification that my Halo Master Chief Collection was paused due to lack of space. I was installing an 86GB file on a 1TB SD with only 300GB (or so) used. I then realized that although I was installing the games on drives E:\
and F:\ alternately (my media SDDs), it seemed all the installation files were being saved to my 1TB C:\ drive. I ran Disk Cleanup and it didn't free up much space (maybe 25Gb) cleaning everything including restore points. I was able to resume the download
and install the game, but now I have 924GB used on the C:\ Drive with seemingly no way to clean out all that bloat (like 500+ GB of it).

I've seen one workaround which involves removing Windows installer privileges from the WindowsApps folder and giving security clearance to my admin account via the Regedit, but that will allegedly force me to also have to reinstall all my apps and games anyway,
and will likely result in the same issue afterward if I reinstall them. Ergo the only workaround is not reinstalling them, which defeats the purpose of having them in the first place! May as well just buy my games from Steam as I have for years and remove
the Xbox App if this is the case as this situation is somewhat ridiculous.

I feel there must be something simpler than this. If not, that is just very poor development. I mean, you have got to realize that most people don't keep their media on their OS root drive, and therefore would want to remove temporary files after an installation.
Why residual files aren't removed automatically by the Xbox app is beside me as is. To lock bloat files behind an inaccessible wall inside the root drive isn't exactly the brightest idea ever.

This is something I would expect from dark web net trash like torrented or cracked game downloaders or ROMulation machines, but not a commercial entity as huge as Microsoft.

Ergo, if anyone has any ideas, please, throw them my way. Sorry for the frustrated tone of the message.

    :)

Finding partially installed games / storage issues / xbox (beta) files

By default your games will save on the C: drive and the common location of saved games is C:\Users\NAME\Saved Games\GAME. Once you find the folder you can backup the files to another storage device. The
games you play will create a saved folder for data locally but depending on where you bought the game, the cloud storage will also kick in. I know for Steam you have to check the game and make sure it has a cloud icon to know it supports it.

You should be able to move the files from your user files in the C: drive if you played from Game pass, you just would need to locate the game's folder in the Program files section of your C: drive, which
is where Steam installs by default.

You don't need to be an Windows Insider to install the Xbox Game Pass for PC (Beta) app. It requires Windows 10 (latest update) and the Xbox (beta) app. What is the error you are getting when trying to install?

    Palworld unsupported 16 bit

I had downloaded files on external harddisk from another computer and then copied files to xbox games in C drive....
This is likely the reason why. PC games on the Xbox App have additional protections that prevents files being used from a different install of the game on another computer. If you want to play this on your PC, you need to download the game from the Xbox App directly to your PC.

    Same issue here too.

New Windows 11 PC with a 400 GB boot partition with 109 GB free and several NVMe drives with up to 2 TB free but I keep getting error 0x80070003 while installing or updating any game from the Xbox app because they are being downloaded first to my C: drive before being moved to the drive I actually specified the game to be installed to.

The Xbox app defaults to the C: drive and I can change it to any other drive and it seems to apply but as soon as I close the app and reopen it then it resets back to C:. It seems like a very serious bug or oversight to me because games were installing fine until recently but as my User folder has grown larger and the amount of free space on my C drive has reduced then so have the number of issues with games installing from the Xbox app. I now no longer download any new game or update any existing game from my library that are installed across several drives due to error 0x8007003. I have NO games installed on C; that is used primarily for Windows and non-gaming application installs.

All my games are installed on other drives from D to O, all of which have at least 250 GB free and several of them are almost empty with almost 2 TB free. Yet I cannot install games to these drives because my C drive is being used instead of the drives I am installing the game to! How stupid is that?
