Xbox app error code 0x80070070 despite telling it to install on another drive?

I think I have finally solved it. I tried to move a smaller game that had downloaded to my internal SSD to my external hard drive and it gave me an error that my external hard drive is in the wrong format for the game. After doing some searching I found
that for a lot of the games on game pass the storage needs to be formatted to NTFS and my hard drive - like a lot of usb storage devices - is formatted to exFAT so I reformatted my drive and tried again which didnt work at first but then i moved the smaller
game over from my internal hard drive to my external hard drive and it now lets me install the other games no problem. The error message it gives you is wrong it should say incorrect drive format but instead it tries to install on the internal drive which
then doesn't have enough space and then gives you the error message. It did mean I'm having to reinstall around 500 Gb of games which is not ideal

I have been having the same issue. I've been trying to install Dead By Daylight and it has been telling me I don't have enough room despite 600Gb free on my external hard drive that I use for all my games. It also didn't work for No man's sky and Halo
3. However it downloaded Forza Horizon 4 completely fine which is bigger than Dead By Daylight and No man's sky

this can sometimes be attributed to having different log files on the same harddrive (for example, if you have used your Storage drive with a previous installation of windows.

One fix might be to rename and "core" folders so that microsoft software doesn't conflict.

I will show my example below - I ran dual system untill i had issues with my hardware on the insiders program, but just adding one letter to the end of the folders is enough for the system to differentiate.

This error can occur for a multitude of reasons though, but I found this solution the quickest and easiest when i was having the same issue as you described.

Edit: Notice that i only have ONE games folder but i still had to re-name it.

Hey wondering if you can help - i am trying to install Forza and get this error code : Code: 0x80070070

says drive has no space but everything should download to my new drive which is 4TB and has loads of space. Any ideas?

Are you able to install other games from Xbox/Microsoft Store?
