Xbox app crashes on startup and disappeared from apps

I havent been using the app for a few months now but wanted to check back with game pass but i cant get the xbox app to work anymore.

when i try to launch the app i get the black window with the white pulsing xbox logo for ~2 seconds before the app closes.

i cant deinstall the app cause i dont find it in the app list. I tried using powershell but it never found the app either. i tried Microsoft.XboxApp, xboxapp and msxbox (which is the name listed under the protocol list). but i never used powershell before so maybe im just using it wrong. i tried "Get-AppxPackage -name “Microsoft.XboxApp” | Remove-AppxPackage" with the names above.

since i can see the xbox app when i just search for it i tried right clicking and "uninstall" there and it says "the app is being deinstalled" but nothing ever happens. let the pc run for over an hour with no update

when i try to run the installer i downloaded it just tries to open the xbox app. when i try downloading it from the ms store it doesn't work either.

as far as im aware i have all relevant xbox services running (xbox game bar, auth manager, game save, net api service).

I tried resetting the windows store cache via wsreset.exe

My windows is on the latest update.

i already went through several other forum posts but never found a solution that works. at this point any help is appreciated. even if its just to get to uninstall everything xbox related in order to reinstall or reset the whole thing.

Based on your description, you have tried to troubleshoot this issue and it still persist. To better isolate the cause and resolve this issue, we will ask for few questions:

Would you mind posting a screenshot of the stuck image of the Xbox app and any error message/code you have encounter during this issue. Please conceal any personal information.

May we ask for your Windows OS version and edition and build?
Are we part of Windows or Xbox Insider?
Can you still recall installing an app or update before this issue happen?
Is this only happening with Xbox app? Are we experiencing launching issues with Microsoft Store, Xbox Game Bar, Xbox Accessories (if installed) and Xbox Console Companion (if installed)?

Given the issue that you were facing, we would suggest you to create new Windows user then try to launch Xbox app from there. For guide, please use this link - Create a local user or administrator account in Windows.

Hello, i was also having this issue and none of the fixes I've done have worked. The xbox launcher was working but then i set up a 2tb external drive and i had

to give myself admin permission to change where all new apps are installed and after i finally got all that to work the xbox launcher wouldn't open. Everything

else works just fine its only the xbox launcher and the microsoft store + all microsoft games thats doing this.

I don't have any windows 10 update available to download. I've also tried to create a new user, but the issue persists.

Hello BetaSpydog, have you checked if you have the latest version of Windows installed, at 21H2, because recently came out the latest update to Windows 10 and 11.

Updates often seen as optional, Microsoft released major fixes this week, and make sure you have the Xbox Companion App installed.

If you haven't updated yet, click the link below, update and then make all subsequent security updates.

Also make sure all Xbox Apps are up to date in the store, and make sure you have the Xbox Companion App installed, it works with the Xbox App.
