    Hi, I’m looking for some advice. Earlier today my sons Xbox account got hacked somehow. The person has changed my sons email address and password so we can’t reset the account. We went through the Microsoft verification process but their ‘automated system’ has decided we haven’t given enough info to verify that we are the owners of the account. We have given the original email address for the account as well as the password we’ve always used. We also provided them with the correct card details linked to the account.

    I don’t know what else to do.

    It’s impossible to get help from Microsoft as we’ve reached the limit of our attempts to verify our account for today.

    I’ve posted on the official Twitter Xbox pages but am get getting random people giving me names of people who can help on Instagram (for a fee of course) which no doubt are looking to cash in and scam us again and I’ve emailed Phil Spencer because I’m that desperate. My son has had thus account for years so it is worth a lot to him and he is very upset.

    Has anyone been in this position before and managed to get the account back? Or should I just prepare him for the fact that the account is lost along with all the birthday/Christmas money that he’s used in his games?

    Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Microsoft you have a PROBLEM

    Unless a main website or service has been hacked - like PSN, it's not a hack ok.

    Phishing, NOT a hack

    Social engineering, NOT a hack

    Giving someone your LIVE ID to someone else and then losing your account,
    NOT a hack

    Using dodgy software or websites offering free points and what not, then losing your account, still
    NOT a hack.

    Signing up for various suspect websites using the same email address and password for LIVE. then losing your account. still
    NOT a hack.

    If EA was compromised and it held your Windows LIVE ID, this is technically a hack, but it's EA that would have been hacked, not Xbox LIVE. When I say 'hack' I mean a real, sophisticated website or server attack. A hack in the literal sense of the word.
