    ok so... I had a gamer tag 'sockpuppetporn', childish yes but hey I was a teenager. The gamertag was accepted at the time by Microsoft, everything is good. Two years later Microsoft ban my gamertag because it is "offensive" (maybe to sock puppets)
    and give me 'radiantpup######' as a gamertag, and want to charge me £7.99 to change this to something I actually want. Fair enough don't give me my old tag but let me choose something that doesn't make me sound 7 years old.

    Hi, forced gamertag changes are only imposed under certain circumstances. Having your personal info, name etc isn't recommended but also isn't against the terms of use or code of conduct.

    You will have to pay to change your tag. There is no way to get a free change. This is per the code of conduct that you agreed to.

    In the past the Enforcement team used to let you pick a new name free of charge but gamers just abused that courtesy and would make somthing just as equally bad if not worse for a gamertag. So they did away with the free name changes where you choose your
    new name and switched it to giving random tags and then charging to change it to something else.

    You can thank the other games who abused the system and then ruined it for everyone.

    But in the end if you want to change your gamertag to one of your choosing youll now have to pay for it
