    Xbox Accessories bricked my controller

So, I have been using a Series X Controller on my PC for 3 months now. It was working great, no issues, just plug, play and go. The other day, Halo Infinite was not recognizing my controller mid match and I had to use my keyboard and mouse to get out of the game and investigate what was going on. I went into Xbox Accessories app and it said my controller needed an update. I figured, okay, sure, why not. Got the update. Now, whenever I play using the controller, after about 15-30 minutes the controller freezes up with the last command I gave it. I'll find my character shooting uncontrollably, running in a direction and me not able to input commands through the controller. I have to unplug and then re-plug the controller back in. I have tried using multiple USB ports on my computer, I've tried using my Xbox One to reset the firmware, I've tired using the xboxaccessories:\\firmwareupdate?legacyDowngrade=true to try and run the firmware downgrade through PC and the Accessories App. NOTHING WORKS! My controller is completely screwed. What the [expiative] is going on with my controller? Did Microsoft fry what is essentially a brand new controller with their OWN UPDATE? Is there a way I can fix this? Or do I have to buy ANOTHER controller and fork out more money?

    :)

Xbox elite 2 controller bricked after update

I was having the same exact problem. Xbox Accessories it told me that I needed to update. When I clicked update, the process failed, and the controller no longer functioned.

Your suggestion to use the Xbox Accessories seems a bit silly as it was using that app that bricked the controller in the first place.

I actually did manage to fix it though! Hopefully this helps people:

The problem seemed to be what USB port I was using. I have a USB hub, and with the controller connected to the hub, Xbox Accessories detected the controller, but attempting to do a firmware update bricked it.

I disabled bluetooth on the PC, unplugged the USB cord from the controller, turned the controller off

Then I plugged the USB (A) into a port directly on the back of my PC.

I plugged the USB (C) side into the controller, which turned it on.

(controller still bricked at this point)

I then opened Xbox Accessories app and did a firmware update.

This time the progress bar started moving, and the update was a success.

The controller is now working as intended.

Defective Console - Poor Resolution, Giant SCAM by Microsoft

The X1 will power on and work without the controller, it will not without the power brick.

In my eyes, the brick is a component of the system, and not an accessory.

Can I buy a 3rd party power brick and still have the system covered under warranty if it fries? I'm pretty sure that warranty claim would be declined. However, if it's just an accessory, there should be no issue right?

How to know if Im having a official xbox series x/s controller

I do use the Bluetooth to connect my controller, no wireless adaptor.

I actually saw that Xbox accessories app (it's not installed) but I'm afraid to use it because I saw someone bricked their controller using it and they had to make a ticket for replacement for a controller. Also the accessories app doesn't have a good rating in the store.

Anymore suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Xbox One Elite controller not working anymore after (failed?) Xbox Accessories firmware upgrade

Another victim here. Received my brand new Elite controller today, bricked after the update from xbox accessories app.

It may have been windows 10 anniversary update drivers that caused issue. Anyone here is facing the same brick issue without the anniversary update on their windows 10?

Xbox Accessories on PC bricked my Xbox One controller and I don't have a access to a Xbox One console

I just had exactly the same issue

I finally installed Windows 10 and knew that this was a prerequisite for updating the xbox one controller firmware. Installed the "xbox Accessories" app and attempted to update the firmware.

The update stalled at 0% and waited 10 minutes and hit the back arrow. The xbox accessories app no longer sees my controller...... seems that the app bricked it.

Like the original poster I do not own an xbox one console

    Any solutions to this problem?
