Xbox Accessories app won't let me configure controller

I recently got an Xbox Series X|S wireless controller to play PC games with. I got the Xbox Accessories app on Windows 10 which prompted me to connect a controller so I turned mine on, thereby connecting it via bluetooth. In order to configure the controller I needed to connect it via USB, so I plugged it in via USB-C. The controller buzzed so I know the connection works and the controller knows it's plugged in, but the app still said it needed to be plugged in. I figured maybe the bluetooth connection was overriding the wired connection for some reason so I turned the controller off, unplugged and plugged it back in. Controller buzzed again, but the app lost the bluetooth connection to the controller, and still refused to acknowledge the wired one. I've tried variations of that song and dance, uninstalling and reinstalling the app, and restarting my PC. I feel like I've tried everything but the app just won't let me configure the controller. Help!

Ah, I knew I was missing something obvious. Can't believe I didn't check that. I never tried actually using the controller with a wired connection cause bluetooth works fine. If only the controller came with a USB-C cable, it took me awhile to find a USB-C cable I already owned and the only one I have is about 4 inches long, which isn't very useful. To answer your question, turns out I cannot. The controller buzzes when plugged in and I assumed that meant it's connected, but it doesn't actually turn on. When I turn it on, it uses the bluetooth connection. I suppose this isn't an issue with the app after all!

I've tried plugging it into all available USB ports on my PC, and it doesn't even show up in Windows' device manager. So I guess the controller knows it's connected, considering it buzzes, but the PC doesn't, so it doesn't prompt the controller to turn on?

With the controller connected with the cable, can you play normally?

Usually, this is a problem with the cable, I say this because I have 2 cables and with one cable the controller only buzzes, and with the other cable it connects quickly.

Check your Windows for all available updates and optional updates and test the controller with another cable

I dont have a pc but I'm gonna try to delete all configarations and reset to the original configuration
