Xbox accessories app overrides Steam big picture configuration

So, I bought an Xbox Elite Series 2 controller the other day (the one with the 4 back pedals) and wanted to configure it for a game I'm playing on Steam. So I set everything up in big picture mode, including extended feature support for the elite controller and everyting seemed fine. However I quickly noticed that the game wouldn't register the new inputs I assigned for the pedals and after a few hours of trial and error aswell as googling I found out that the controller is still using the configuration settings from the Xbox accessories app and not the one from Steam, also when I press the Xbox button of the controller, both the xbox game bar and the steam overlay pop up even tho only the steam overlay should, so the controller IS registering in steam, it's just being overriden by windows/Xbox it seems.

I've already tried the usual "restart PC, reconnect controller, reinstall drivers" methods without success.

Does anyone know how to disable this or force the controller to use the Steam config instead of the Xbox/Windows one?

I already did this and while it fixes the overlay problem, the controller unfortunately still does not register the steam configuration and sticks to the one set in the xbox accessories app.

just click the windows key + G and go to settings > shortcut, and remove the combo box to open the Xbox game bar with the control button.

he is on about the rear configurable paddles not the xbox button

I believe this is only possible when you are using official rechargeable batteries. You can see the remaining battery life in the Xbox Accessories app and also in the Steam Big Picture feature when going to settings and controller settings.
