xbox 360S unsupported message

I have an Xbox 369 S with 294 GB hard drive and a Kinect sensor. With the Kinect connected to the console I get an unsupported message on my display. With out the Kinect connected, everything works normally. Is this a console or Kinect problem?

WMC and MCE are currently officially unsupported. However, several beta users used HTPCs or 360s effectively. Hopefully you have a similar experience.

if everything works, I think it can be a kinect problem. is there an error code?

Thanks for reaching out to us! It is possible that your Kinect may be the reason for the message you are receiving rather than the console. Please make sure that your Kinect is for a 360 console as there are Kinect models that are specific to the Xbox One
console that are not compatible with 360.

I have had this system for several years so it is not a compatibility problem. I recently moved and the problem started to occur a short time after the move. It started by having video breakup when playing a game using the Kinect but normal if the same
game was played without the Kinect.

 

No error code, just the message unsupported. And the system hangs up and has to be restarted.

Kinect Setup on Xbox 360 will explain how to update the Kinect. If the Kinect is still not functioning correctly after updating it, the Kinect may need to be replaced. Be sure to let us know the results!

 

Hi, when you moved home was the Kinect securely packaged ? What can happen is the motor inside the Kinect get strained and fails. If that is the case there's nothing you can do to fix the Kinect. The unsupported error can appear if the Kinect can't move
the sensor head, which if the motor has failed would be the case.

It does look like you have the same issue this other person had maybe ?

Kinect startup breaks with "This sensor is not supported on Xbox360" message.

 

When I moved I packed the Kinect in the original box it came in. It worked for a while, started getting breakups in the video on my tv and then I started getting the unsupported message.

 

It may be worth checking the USB cable isn't damaged, if you're using the Kinect power adapter I'd also check that too. The Kinect is one of those things that either works or it doesn't in most cases.
