    Xbox 360s 250GB HD shows as unformatted


    When I turn on my xbox, it tells me I need to update, then it says there isn't room. When I look at my storage device, it says it is unformatted. I pulled it out and put it back in, but it is still saying that it is unformatted. Is there a way to fix this
    issue without reformtting? If not, how would I get my games back?

    System update from XBOX LIVE at startup.

    I have a 360s 250Gb HDD.

    At boot up my xbox goes through POST (xbox logo) then before it opens to dashboard I get a Update Required msg telling me to I need to install a system update from XBOX LIVE. When I go to start the update I get a error msg telling me I have no storage. So
    I cancel the update and dashboard opens up with me signed out of LIVE. When I go to storage settings it shows my 250Gb HDD as unformatted. ?? Weird.

    Any ideas?

    Can a 20GB Hard Drive for the XBox360 Play Original XBox Games?

    Just to re-clarify, Microsoft no longer make the 20gb hd anymore. The drive you bought was not an official drive. Microsoft have never made the 20gb hd for the Xbox 360S. The only official drives you can buy for the Xbox 360S is the 250gb and the 320gb.

    Sorry to hear it. What type of storage device are you using? Is it an official hard drive?

    Unfortunately there is no way to avoid the reformatting. Although you will lose any saves that you have on the device you can redownload any content your gamertag has purchased. Go to Settings>Accounts>Download History to redownload the content.

    Official HD unless Microsoft started putting in unofficial has in their consoles...what is causing the problem? Is there a way to prevent this from happening to begin with?

    How long have you had the console? Perhaps it was a glitch.

    If the console is still within the year warranty then perhaps support may be able to replace it for you.
