xbox 360E 4GB hard/flash drive crash - can it be fixed?

Hi! Our xbox 360E 4GB flash memory just died. Hard drive is saying it needs to be formatted. From what I've read, it needs to be replaced.

#1 - CAN you replace the 4gb flash drive memory?

#2 - would inserting a larger hard drive fix the problem, or would I need to disable the 4gb flash drive?

#3 - Can I save the profiles / preferences before I change the hard drive? If yes, how would I do that?

Hi, do you have the 4GB console, the mandatory install the game requires must be installed to an Xbox Hard drive such as the one in this link below.

You can't do the install to the internal flash memory of a 4GB console, USB flash drive or external hard drive, it has to be an Xbox hard drive.

You cannot install this game on a Xbox 360 4GB console. On the back of the box it specifically states the following:

Additional system requirements: Minimum USB 2.0 Flash Drive (formatted for Xbox) or Xbox 360 Hard Drive with 3 GB free space required for play. Hard drive sold separately for Xbox 360 4GB, and original Xbox 360 Arcade, Core consoles.

In order to play this game on your 4GB console, you'll need either a minimum of a 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive, or an official Xbox 360 hard drive (250GB/320GB for your Xbox 360 S console).

You cannot repair the internal flash storage and attempts to do so would void any warranty as well as making it ineligible for any official repairs since you would have tampered with it. Adding an actual, official hard drive will get you the ability to store
DLC, games, and save data (as would a USB thumb drive), but you will not be able to recover any games saves that were on the internal storage that has failed. You won't need to disable the internal 4GB storage. You can download your profile information from
Live again once you install a working storage unit, whether it is USB or hard drive.

To clarify, the 360E uses exactly the same hard drive as the 360S.

Just that the 360E 4GB is sold without a hard drive, but has an HDD slot so you have to buy one separately.

It's XBOX 360E or something. It has never had any extra hard drive. Just 4gb storage for the system. It worked fine until today. I\ve been using flash drives for games and box versions. Nobody touched it or moved it. Nothing changed, I turned it on as
I always do and it won't log in or load the dashboard.

If you have the 4gb Xbox, the 4gb is internal flash memory and not a hard drive. You would need either the 250gb or 320gb hard drive since it requires a hard drive.

So, a failing hard drive is what causes the frequent system updates? My partner's xbox has unformatted itself three times now. It's the 360s with 4gb drive. I didn't see a compartment for a hard drive like mine has (360e), either.
