Do I need to purchase a separate Xbox gold membership for my child account?

Xbox Live question

Hi,

I have just purchased an Xbox one for our child, and I am wondering about xbox live membership.

Am I correct in thinking that an adult must create a Microsoft account (which I have), and then add a child account. If so which account must I apply the live subscription too, if I add it to the adult account can the child use it, or must it be added to
the child account (so each person needs their own subscription).

Changing adult account to child and vice versa

My son 14 years old had an Xbox 360 with an adult account but now I bought him an Xbox one s.

I read that it was possible to handle the screen time on Xbox one s, so I made an child account

to my son because of that reason. I set up the screen time so it worked fine but then a realized

that all the games and progress and his Xbox live membership was on the adult account.

Is there a way to reverse the adult account and the child account (the easy way) or transfer everything

from the adult account to the child account (the hard time consuming way).

What I want is that he should have everything as it was on Xbox 360 but I still want to limit his screen time.

Can you help me?

Yes. On the 360 each account needs it's own subscription in order to play online.

smwutches... yea what about xbox 1 can my child play online with my membership or do i have to purcase another subscription for the minor acct

Unfortunately Xbox live discontinued their family membership to pursue game pass, however I do recommend that you have the 2 adult accounts with the Xbox live membership and share with the child accounts via home share feature on consoles

If you have a child account, you will need to purchase these games from an Xbox 360 console. If you do not own an Xbox 360, create an adult account and share the Xbox Live with that account and download while signed in to the new adult account.

That error is because you have a child account

You have two options

Sign in on a adult account and buy the game with gold with its own good membership or use an xbox 360 to make the purchase

Make sure that you still have a valid Xbox Live gold membership. Now, if you're a child account, sign into the parent account on your Xbox One and once signed in, go to Settings > All Settings > Accounts > Family > select the child account > Privacy and
online safety. Make sure to set it to adult default. If it's already set to that settings, set it to child then save then switch it back to adult and save. That's how you refresh the restriction of the child account.

Promote a child account to an adult account

Xbox LIVE determines whether an account is a child account or an adult account based on the age of the account owner. Account owners who are younger than 18 are given child accounts in the United States. The legal adult age varies by country and region (for
example, the adult age in Korea is 20).

Child accounts are tied to an adult's Windows Live ID. The adult account can control Family Settings and restrict some features of Xbox LIVE.

After you reach the age of adulthood (which varies by country and region), you can promote a child account to an adult account. This promotion removes the Family Settings and Xbox LIVE restrictions.

To promote a child account to an adult account

1.Sign in to Xbox LIVE by using the account that you want to change.
2.Go to My Xbox, and then select your profile.
3.Select Manage Account.
4.Select Promote Child Account.

Note This option is available only if the date of birth for the account indicates that you have reached the age of adulthood (18 in the United States). The legal adult age varies by country and region. The age of an account owner is calculated by using the
date of birth provided when the account was created. This date cannot be changed. If you entered an incorrect date of birth when you created the account, your only option is to create a new account using the correct date of birth.

5.Follow the on-screen instructions to promote the account.
