Xbox 360 won't recognise redeemed code

I recently redeemed a one month XBL code online. It said that the code was redeemed successfully. When I went to join a friend's party, an error message popped up, saying "You need a Gold Membership to do this".

I had a friend check all the details for me (because I'm not entirely sure how it's done) and she checked:

- Region. I heard that this was a common issue, so she checked and my region is definitely listed as Australia (which is where I am)

- Subscription status on the "My Account" page. It definitely says that I have a 1 month XBL subscription activated. I even got an email saying that my code was redeemed successfully.

I switched my Xbox on and off again a few times, and I still can't use XBL features. If there's something we didn't check, or if you know what's going on, we would appreciate any help with this.

Alan Wake DLC Currently Availible for Free

off topic a bit but I found out if you redeem a xbox code (ala alan wake) on the x1 it doesn't give you the ability to download it on the 360 kinda bsClick to expand...

i thought the 360 games were platform agnostic. no way of redeeming the code and then DLing it to the 360 after the fact??

i thought the 360 games were platform agnostic. no way of redeeming the code and then DLing it to the 360 after the fact??Click to expand... no code is already used for example I redeemed my alan wake American nightmare code on 360 and then it popped up on my x1 as available to download but I did alan wake in reverse

For some Xbox 360 codes, when redeemed on Xbox One, the game can only be downloaded on Xbox One and not on an Xbox 360 console. I'm not entirely sure why, but redeeming on the Xbox One means that it does not show up in your Xbox 360 download history so the
older console does not recognise that you own, and can thus download, the game.

You'll still be able to download and play the game on Xbox One.

I hope this clarifies things.

I don't recall the Xbox 360 marketplace has an option to buy a gift for someone. Only the Xbox One store. Where did the person who gifted you the game buy the code from and how was the code given?

Once you redeem a code to your account whether on your PC or on the Xbox, the code won't be able to be redeemed again. You either redeem it online or you redeem it on the console.

Check you purchase history on your Xbox 360 to check for the redeemed game so you can start the download.

you code should be recognised here, if it is not (the wrong size/ doesnt fit), then this is not a MS redemption code.

You can use the code on your PC, doesn't mean it won't work on the Xbox One. It will recognise your gamer tag when you download it for the Xbox One.

As the game is a 360 game, you can only use your account balance when making the purchase from an Xbox 360 console. Via the xbox one or Xbox.com won't recognise it.

It is to do with the way the 360 store was designed.
