Xbox 360 won't play games, dvds, or run apps.

I had the same issue. Luckily, if you want to call me that, I have the cheap 4gb model and all data on usb drives. Simple format of the hard drive fixed the problem.

Can't play Titanfall or Destiny but hey, I can deal with these issues easily.

Have you reset your internet? that seemed to work as well. My friend had this problem but did not want to delete his hdd because its was almost full. Unplugged router started a game, plugged internet back in, and logged into xbox live (while in game) and
fixed the issue with everything. Strange this happened the same day to so many people.

Hi Everyone, The problem for me started yesterday also, and it is now July 31 2014 and still nothing...does anyone know what the issue is and when it is going to be fixed ?? Going insane !!!!

There's nothing "normal" about running
games from the 360's DVD drive. There is no other consumer electronics device that runs a DVD drive at 12x for sustained periods of time.

The only way to extend the life of a 360 DVD drive is to install all games to HDD or USB MU prior to playing.

Can you confirm if your console can read DVD discs?

Xbox 360 games are on DVD and Xbox One games are on Blu-Ray. The Xbox One's Blu-ray drive has a separate laser to read DVD's, if it has malfunctioned, Xbox 360 games can't be read and the digital download for BC games won't start.

To test this out, try playing a DVD movie disc. In all likelihood these films won't play and that will confirm drive malfunction. If this is the case you'll need your console repaired/replaced.

You've said you've tried blu-ray discs and Xbox One discs but have you tried DVD discs?

Xbox 360 games are on DVD and my guess is that DVD won't play either.

The reason why they won't play is that DVD diode for reading these discs has failed. Other discs work because that laser diode is still working.

Try a DVD disc. If it does not work you'll need a repair.

This may be the problem. DVDs aren’t working in the drive. I will see if this can be fixed or if I need to replace the system.

The xbox 360 i have will read and play any DVD but it will not play any games. I've downloaded the updates and installed them successfully. No games working at all, won't read the game disc and always switches back to play DVD.
