Xbox 360 won't play games, dvds, or run apps.

Xbox starts up and connects fine. But if I try to run an app or game or even just a DVD, the screen goes black and stays there. When I hit the home button and hit return to dashboard it just freezes.

There's nothing "normal" about running
games from the 360's DVD drive. There is no other consumer electronics device that runs a DVD drive at 12x for sustained periods of time.



The only way to extend the life of a 360 DVD drive is to install all games to HDD or USB MU prior to playing.

 

It would be pretty cool if the HD-DVD played 360 disc games too

Can you even get HD-DVDs? Yes. Amazon and eBay, for example.

Run Xbox 360 games? No.

Use HD-DVD Player on the PC? Yes, but only for CD/DVD/HD-DVD.

Let's go ahead and try these steps one more time and see if they can help. Please post if these steps help or not below as well. Thanks!

1). Clear your cache

2). Redownload your profile

**Now test again, if the issue persists, please try steps 3 & 4**

3). Remove and re-connect your hard drive

4). Delete any game/app causing this issue and any DLC associated for that game on the hard drive and then redownload said content again

Try this: simply disconnect your console's internet connection. For me: this rendered everything which had previously given me the forever night black screen of doom playable again.

 

All these steps don't work microsoft mske an update and stop making us do long steps to try and fix it

 

Hi all,

As we continue to look in to this issue, we have found a good amount of success with performing these steps in this specific order. Let's go ahead and all try this out and see if it is able to help.

1). Power cycle the console (turn the console off and back on)

2). Clear the system cache 3 times in a row

3). Power console off, remove all USB accessories, Memory cards, Kinect (if attached) and
hard drive, then try launching a disc-based game that does not require hard drive

4). If still failing, remove the profile ONLY (do not delete items associated
with your profile when asked) and then re-download the profile

If this does not help resolve the issue though, please provide the following info for us to pass along to the proper teams:

1). What model console and hard drive you are using? (ex: S model with a 250GB HDD, Original model console with a 20GB HDD, etc.)

2). When did you first notice this behavior? (ex: 7-29-2014 at 3:30PM EST)

3). What games/apps have you recently downloaded around the same time this issue started occurring?

Mister rush I tryed my xbox 360 E doesn't even have a hard drive just tell your company to make an update please

 

ive had this issue all day ive tried all the steps suggested by mister rush here and in his other responses on this problem. im getting *** off i have thousands of dollars of games and i cant play any of them WTF microsoft get a proper fix for this!!

Model: Xbox 360 mini no harddrive 4GB

Time noticed: around 2 or 3 pm 7-30-14

Games/Apps: non downloaded blacks ops 2 played all day

I tryed all your steps no succsess
