    Xbox 360 with a 1920x1200 Monitor

Hey, everyone. I just started using the I-INC iF281D 28" monitor. It has a native resolution of 1920x1200. However, it seems that the Xbox 360 is unable to see that it is a 16:10 monitor. I already understand that the 360 does not have a resolution option
of 1920x1200, and that's okay. I'm willing to use 1680x1050 as long as it is the proper aspect ratio, as it is. However, when I use this resolution, there picture is letterboxed on the top and bottom. I don't understand why, since the 1680x1050 is 16:10, just
like the monitor. Here's another weird thing; when I select 1080p, the picture is NOT letterboxed like it should be. I don't understand why the 360 is confusing the aspect ratios.

Is this a problem with the 360, or the monitor itself? Like I said, I'm willing to use 1680x1050 or 1080p as long as either of them are displayed properly.

    Thanks!

    :)

  2. Xbox on 1920x1200 monitor doesn't work -- Even in letterbox

I have an Xbox 360 (Well obviously.) It won't work on my 1920x1200 monitor, Even when put into Widescreen, 1920x1080, Or any of the like. I've turned Display Discovery off and left it in widescreen, set it to 1680x1050, Set it to 640x480, Even did the RT
+ Y Reset Resolution trick. NONE work. At all. The monitor works with my PC and the Xbox works with the TV Downstairs (Using HDMI)

    Anyone care to help?

    Console is Elite 120gb (Older)

Connecting an Xbox 360 to DVI Monitor

First, your links are mis-typed so its not possible to tell what monitor you have, and second, if the monitor your using has a bigger resolution than 1080p and you don't have a 1:1 pixel setting on the monitor, then thats why im guessing it would appear
fuzzy because of improper scaling. The reason your TV seems sharper is because all modern made HDTV's currently max out at 1080p and the Xbox's is designed around use with a TV. Monitors come in resolutions higher than that such as 1920x1200 and 2560x1600.
so unless you have a 1:1 pixel ratio setting on your monitor, the monitor will scale the picture even further than the TV could and since the Xbox 360 doesn't even go past 1080p (which 720p upscaled to 1080p), a monitor bigger than that is not something you
want to use for Xbox gaming.

So unless you fix your links, thats all i can tell you about your issue. Most people can't get DVI adapters to work with their Xbox 360's to their monitors so congratz for making it work for yourself.

Try adjusting the resolution on both the xbox and the monitor it should display in full screen without the letterbox. I have my both my tv and xbox 360 set to 1080p and I haven't had any problems at all. I also think there is a black bar setting in the display
settings. Check those too to see if that helps.

The monitor has a 'full' and a 'fit' video setting. Changing between the settings did not change the letterbox of 1680x1050 or 1080p. Thanks for the reply though. I'm an aspect ratio freak, so I'm probably going to return this monitor and just get a 16:9
    like everyone else!

    Question About Xbox One Resolution

The One provides a max. resoltion of 1080p which means there are a true 1920 pixels in width and 1080 pixels in height. Usually a pc monitor which provides a resolution of 1920x1200 should be able to provide that, too.

Using a computer monitor instead of a television

    Which monitor do you have?

Many monitors these days come with HDMI inputs. The 360 will directly connect to an HDMI input with nothing more than a standard HDMI cable.

If your monitor is older, you may have either a DVI or VGA input.

DVI can be handled via an HDMI to DVI cable (or adapter), but keep in mind you lose audio unless you have the HDMI A/V Kit and its included AV port audio out adapter.

VGA can be handled by a VGA cable kit. Get the MS kit, not a third party knock-off as the third party ultra-cheap cables have serious ghosting issues. The VGA cable includes both optical audio out and L/R audio out.

If you have a sufficiently high-end display you may have Component input on your monitor. The 360 will attach to that as well.

I've used my 360s with monitors that have Component input, HDMI, DVI, and VGA. Other than minor tweaks within the monitor's configuration screens to account for some odd input behavior (over/underscan), they've all worked fine.

There's one thing to keep in mind. The 360 outputs a 16x9 signal. The 360's VGA and HDMI to DVI resolution list was updated to support 16x10 resolutions for monitors that cannot provide proper scaling, but it only works up to a 16x10 resolution of 1680x1050.
There's no 1920x1200 option. Keep that in mind if you have a 1920x1200 display that lacks aspect control.

Can Xbox One be used with a 1920x1200 resolution monitor?

According to the manual, the Dell E248WFP supports 480i/ 480p/ 576i/ 576p/ 720p/ 1080i/ 1080p. Of those, only 720P and 1080P would likely be selectable on the console. 1920x1200 is not a resolution supported by Xbox consoles and thus the image would be stretched, reducing the image quality considerably.

I'm not able to determine how old this monitor is, but by the looks of it it's at least 10 years+ judging by the fact that it only supports VGA and DVI. While you can buy a HDMI to DVI adaptor (and it needs to be that way around), DVI does not support audio and this monitor has no speakers so a audio splitter would be needed, plus a set of speakers or headphones.

To be perfectly honest, you're better off just getting a new TV.
