    XBox 360 Wireless Receiver Requires Re-Plug After Power On


    Hello,

    I have a wireless 360 controller that I use on my PC (Running fully updated version of Win 10). The wireless controller won't connect to the receiver (which is plugged into a USB port on my PC) after powering on my PC. Every time I power on, i have to disconnect
    the USB, and reconnect it. After that point, the controller connects as expected.

    This is quite a nuisance, as I have to keep the USB plugged into an easily accessible port (in front) which gets in the way, etc. as opposed to tucking it away behind the PC and 'forgetting' about it.

    I have installed and reinstalled the latest 360 controller drivers multiple times. I'm at my wit's end! Please advise.

    Question about 360 controller for PC

    A normal wired 360 controller will plug in and play on your PC without issue. Windows will pick it up instantly.

    A wireless 360 controller requires the Microsoft Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows. It plugs in via USB.

    Are you trying to find the drivers for the Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver? If so, then the drivers are built in to Windows 10, and should install automatically when you plug the adapter into a USB port. If you are using an earlier version of windows, then
    the add new hardware wizard should start, and find the drivers.

    PCs require the adapter in order to use a 360 controller, as the controller uses a custom wireless format.

    Hi,

    There is no driver to download or update for Xbox 360 controllers on Windows 10. You just plug them in.

    Note: Xbox 360 wireless controllers can not be turned into wired controllers. A 360 play and charge cable can only charge a battery or power the controller if no battery is present, it does not send data.

    • If you have a wired 360 controller just plug it in, no driver required
    • If your controller is wireless, you need an Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows.

    Hi,

    The Xbox 360 wireless controllers can't be turned into wired ones with a Play & Charge. This is because even when wired, 360 wireless controllers remain wireless. The cable only provides power, no data is sent.

    This is also why they don't appear in game controllers but the generic controller does.

    To use a wireless 360 controller on Windows requires a gaming receiver. And the receiver must be for 360 controllers, the official receiver for Xbox One/Series controllers won't work.

    Can I hard drive damage the console?

    If the HD is not plugged in all the way you may get error lights. Make sure whenever you plug a HD on a 360 the power is off and the HD is connected tightly.

    If you received error lights after connecting a HD to a 360 power the 360 down remove the HD and re plug it in. Unless the HD it's self is damaged there should be no error lights. If the HD is damaged you will have to get a new HD.
