    xbox 360 wireless receiver for Windows


    Looks like I bought a knock off wireless receiver for Windows. What are support options? Does Microsoft deal with any of these devices? I'm running windows 7 and apparently the device has 'compatible with Windows 8' on the outer package, so I am assuming
    it does not work with earlier OSs (when I tried to setup it says not compatible with OS). And when windows 10 comes out will I be stuck with a device that does not work again? Anyone with the same problem?

    Connecting my Xbox 360 controller to Windows 8 laptop.

    For wireless Xbox 360 controllers, you cannot use the charging cable to connect to a PC (it only transfers power, not data). To use the controller with a PC, you will either need an "Xbox 360 controller for Windows" (non-detachable cable) or use your existing
    wireless controller with the wireless gaming receiver for Windows.

    This is the wireless adapter you could use:
    support.xbox.com/.../xbox-360-wireless-gaming-receiver-windows

    Other than taking it back & getting a refund there's not much you can do.

    Microsoft don't offer support for 3rd party items.

    Is there any chance that the Microsoft version of this device (marked Microsoft, rather than Xbox 360) provides software to map the controller to keystrokes, such as the Xpadder software offered on the web? Seems like a smart idea, I could then use the xbox
    controller with DosBox.

    Thanks for your post! To use an Xbox 360 controller on a Windows PC, you must use the

    Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver    . Since the Xbox 360 controller and Xbox One controller use different wireless technologies, the new receiver is not compatible with 360 controllers.

    Thanks for coming to the forums. The wireless adapter is for Xbox one controllers. There is an

    Xbox wireless receiver     for Xbox 360 controllers. They also sell Xbox 360 controllers with Bluetooth capability for windows. The receiver you will have to search around for as they are hard to find.
