xbox 360 wireless receiver driver not working

There aren't any drivers to download for Windows 10 as the drivers for Xbox 360 controllers are already built into the OS.

The Xbox 360 controller uses its own type of wireless protocol, it's not Bluetooth and so it can't be connected to a PC directly without additional hardware. It needs an Xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver for use on a PC. This receiver needs to be specifically for Xbox 360 controllers. The receivers for the Xbox One controllers won't work either.

I use the Wireless Xbox 360 controller receiver on my PC, but after the latest update the receiver stopped working. I reinstalled the drivers but nothing seemed to work. In the driver menu, I see that the latest driver for the Xbox 360 wireless
receiver came out on September 7 of this year (version 10.0.18980.1), which did surprise me as I didn't know development towards that device was still being done. Regardless the driver that used to work for me is version 2.1.0.1349, which was released on August
13, 2009. That might not be correct as whenever I have to reinstall the driver (usually when I change the device's USB port), I use the one that begins with a "2", but so long as the included Windows drivers haven't changed, that's the one that has historically
worked.

Exact same isssue. If I rollback, everything works fine.

there is a official driver for the xbox one controllers you need the xbox accessorie app and uninstall the xbox 360 controller driver

then just reconnect the xbox one wireless receiver it will reinstall the right driver automaticacly

Are you trying to find the drivers for the Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver? If so, then the drivers are built in to Windows 10, and should install automatically when you plug the adapter into a USB port. If you are using an earlier version of windows, then
the add new hardware wizard should start, and find the drivers.

PCs require the adapter in order to use a 360 controller, as the controller uses a custom wireless format.

There is no controller driver to download for Windows 8 because the driver is already installed as part of the Operating System. This applies to both the Desktop version of Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 8/8.1RT for Windows Surface Tablets.

If you have a wired Xbox 360 controller, just plug it in, it will work straight away. For wireless controllers you still need a wireless gaming receiver. And yes, the receiver does work with Windows 8RT.
