XBox 360 WIRED controllers don't show 3 and 4

Okay. Here's a list of what I did to try and trouble-shoot the issue.

1 - Turned off and unplugged XBOX 360. Plugged in 3 Microsoft brand wired controllers into USB ports on the back. Plugged in XBOX 360 and powered on. All 3 controllers show Player 1. Unplugged each controller individually at the in-line release/breakaway
connector and reconnected. No change. Each still shows Player 1.

2 - Turned off and unplugged XBOX 360. Plugged in 1 Microsoft brand wireless controller into USB port on front (I know it's a wireless controller but this one is used and the rechargeable battery is completely dead and won't hold a charge.). Plugged in
3 Microsoft brand wired controllers into USB ports on the back. Plugged in XBOX 360 and powered on. All 3 regular wired controllers show Player 1. Wireless controller that's plugged into a USB port shows as Player 2.

Guess what?! I've got the same problem!

I just gave my kids an XBOX 360 S R2D2 console for Christmas. I bought it used with 1 wireless controller and bought 3 brand new wired controllers. When I plug in 2 or more wired controllers they all default to Player 1. The wireless will show up as Player
2.

I sure would like to be able to play with more than 2 players.

all my Xbox One controllers have suffered from stick drift and erratic buttons (sometimes they don't register, other times they register multiple presses)

I bought a wired 360 pad to play games on my PC years ago (the game was Juiced2 HIN to give an idea of how long ago) and that pad is still 100% with no drift and buttons functioning as intended, but a few months playing Forza Horizon 3 or 4 is enough to
wear out an Xbox One controller.

if it was possible, I'd use the wired 360 pad with the One, but sadly that isn't an option for some reason.

I was probably getting a year or more out of each 360 controller. My biggest problem with them was the battery slot cracking. I have two One controllers(1 for console, 1 for PC) and both are doing just fine. Now back when I picked up a PS3 I was going
through a controller every couple months till I picked up a wired 360 controller and an adapter. That thing is just now showing signs of needing to be replaced and I was using it heavily for 3 or 4 years for CoD.

The Xbox 360 wireless controllers can't be turned into wired ones with a Play & Charge. This is because even when wired, 360 wireless controllers remain wireless. The cable only provides power, no data is sent.

This is also why they don't appear in game controllers but the generic controller does.

To use a wireless 360 controller on Windows requires a gaming receiver. And the receiver must be for 360 controllers, the official receiver for Xbox One/Series controllers won't work.
