Xbox 360 wired controller on Windows 10 not working

Hello,

I followed all the instructions on the Microsoft site: Set Up an Xbox 360 Controller for Windows | Xbox Live

Windows 10 recognizes the controller, installs the current drivers for it, charges it up, yet it wont actually control anything. I've tried several games known to support 360 controllers in Windows. I've done standard troubleshooting - remove driver, reinstall
driver, roll back to older drivers, reboots between everything.

I chatted with Xbox support a few weeks ago and after troubleshooting a bit I was told the controller does not work with games on Windows 10 (????). I'm of course puzzled because there's a support page for it and Windows 10 definitely recognizes it as a
360 controller.

Any thoughts??

xbox 360 controller is "working properly" but fails to sync

Wired xbox 360 controller is "working properly" on windows 10, but fails to sync, all 4 lights on the controller keep blinking. any assistance would be appreciated.

 

xbox 360 controller on xbox one while using the xbox app on windows 10

i have a xbox 360 controller and i want to use it for my xbox one. i have read that it is possible while using the xbox app on windows 10. https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-on-windows/accessories/xbox-controller-for-windows-setup .
the sentence in the blue says that i can use the xbox app on windows 10 to check it if the controller is working. so my question is can it work on your xbox one the xbox 360 controller while using the xbox app on windows 10?

Set up a wired controller on Windows 10

Follow these steps to install your Xbox 360 wired controller on Windows 10:

1. Plug the Xbox 360 controller into any USB 2.0 or 3.0 port on the computer.
2. Windows 10 will automatically install drivers for your controller, so you won't have to download or install software other than Windows 10 updates. Once you see the pop-up notification that the drivers have been installed, you can use your controller.
   
3. Open a game or the Xbox app and test your controller by pressing a button, pulling a trigger, or moving a stick on the controller.
   

Notes

• If your Xbox 360 wired controller is not detected by your PC, try plugging it into a different USB port, and then test it again.
  
• If your controller still does not work, check that Windows 10 is fully updated. Install any updates and then try again.
  
• Refer to your game documentation for information about how to configure the Xbox 360 controller for a specific game
  

 

Just in case this is not yet fixed, and GenialGryphon10 still has trouble:

First of all, make sure you are truly using a WIRED Xbox 360 controller. If you have a wireless controller and use the USB Play & Charge cable, this does NOT WORK!

The Play & Charge cable ONLY provides power to the controller, but no button or stick commands are transmitted via the Play & Charge cable!

So make sure that you really have a wired controller, with a cable that is
NOT removable.
The controller cable has to look like this. A slim cord with a kink protection and it is NOT detachable from the controller.

If the controller has
a removable cable like this, and
looks like this with the cable attached, then it will NOT work on your PC unless you also buy yourself the

Wireless Gaming Receiver.

 

Thank you for this. i purchased the cable specifically to use my 360 controller on windows, and have been puzzling for weeks trying to figure out why this isnt working. now it looks like i have to purchase the wireless receiver.

 

I definitely have a wired unit

windows 10 does not recognize it at all.

I tried installing the software that came with it - device not recognized

I tried uninstalling the software from the installation disc and just plugging it in as directed - - device not recognized

has anyone out there actually gotten the xbox 360 wired controller working on windows 10?

If there are updated drivers I cant find them anywhere
