Xbox 360 wired controller not being recognised on Windows 8 laptop

    Xbox 360 wired controller not being recognised on Windows 8 laptop


    I've downloaded the windows 7 software onto my laptop and the device doesn't show up through device manager or joy.cpl. I ran the software in windows 7 mode and it still isn't picking any controller up. The controller won't turn on when I press the button.
    The controller works fine when it's plugged into an xbox 360- is there a chance it's an issue with my laptop's system properties? It's a samsung np350v5c.

    Xbox 360 Controller does not work on my PC ?

    I am guessing the controller is a wired controller as the Wireless controller with Wireless PC adapter comes with drivers on a DVD in the box which work with Windows 8 (I use them myself).

    As mentioned earlier by IceStorm III, a wireless controller with a Play and Charge kit won't work as that play and charge kit only carries power to charge/run a wireless controller with your Xbox 360.

    If it is indeed a wired Xbox 360 controller you are trying to use with Windows 8 you can use the Windows 7 drivers which you can download here:

    Question about Xbox 360-PC Wireless Gaming Receiver

    If you have a wired Xbox controller it will work. ( Note using a wireless controller and the play and charge kit will not work) Check out the link below fo downloads for the Xbox 360 Wired Controller For Windows.

    Hey there, I believe it's because you're using windows 8, I know you said you switched it to Win 7 'mode', but I have a feeling you'd need to be running the full windows 7 os for it to work. You can use the following link to help troubleshoot, though I don't

    My Xbox elite controller just stopped working yesterday on a recently purchased laptop but already had the anniversary update on it so I can't roll back to the previous version of Windows 10.

    I've noticed now that in the device and printer section of the Control Panel I've got a Xbox 360 controller for Windows entry which isn't present on another version of Windows 10 install on my desktop PC so this laptop now has two entries the elite controller
    and the Xbox 360 controller in Control Panel.If I disabled the Xbox 360 controller entry I get functionality on the elite controller but on a restart Windows the 360 controller reappears in Control Panel and in device manager.

    Strange thing that for a week since I've had this new laptop everything was working fine in, now steam doesn't recognise the elite controller and windows hasn't done an update so how's this happened?
