Xbox 360 Wired controller doesn't work for any PC games

Hello, my Xbox controller is not working with my PC properly. It's plugged in, lights up, shows up in my hardware and is updated to the newest drivers. I've tried all the troubleshooting available and nothing has worked. It doesn't show up in joy.cpl at
all. Moving it into a different USB slot doesn't work either.

Any solutions? Thanks.

Xbox 360 controller and PC

So the 360 controller doesn't work with the PC unless you have a specfic wired controller? The wireless with the cord doesn't work?

Looking for a good PC gamepad?

The wired 360 controller for Windows can be used on any game that supports gaming controllers, not just Games for Windows titles. Even if your PC game doesn't support a controller you can always use a third party app on your computer like Xpadder.

I use my 360 wired pad to play on emulators, as well as PC games.

Is it just for one game? If not there should be external programs that allow you to use a controller as a mouse and bind all of the controls you want if all else fails.

I've only been able to test this with two different games, but neither worked. The controller is lit up, but it won't work for anything.

For 360 controllers to work on PC without any additional hardware, they must be wired. The 360 play and charge for wireless controllers
won't turn a wireless controller into a wired one. The reason is simply because the play and charge can not send data, it only provides power.

It doesn't really matter if the PC/Laptop has Bluetooth or not though. The user is trying to get the controller to work with a wire, which worked before, and is the same wire I'm using. My PC doesn't have Bluetooth.

I already stated earlier that the Play and charge for the Xbox One also sends data, and it can turn a wireless controller into a wired controller. Only the 360 play and charge is just a charger.

So... not even Microsoft's own controllers are supported? I find this quite ridiculous. What about the Elite 1 or 2? Are those supported?

Paul from the Xbox Forums Team here to assist with the issue, it looks like you're trying to get a Xbox 360 controller to work on your pc. How is this controller connecting to your PC? Is it a wired controller or wireless controller? If it's a wireless 360
controller there is a wireless dongle that would be needed to have the controller work on PC. Please let us know.
