  1. Xbox 360 Wi-Fi network adapter driver.

Hi there. I just recently purchased myself a Linksys WRT1900AC Wi-FI router. Xbox One works great wirelessly. The Xbox 360 slim is having a lot of issues though. I tried everything, port forwarding. Putting the 360 in the DMZ zone, DHCP reservations. Nothing
was working, 360 kept giving me various error codes and the NAT was never open.

After discussing the situation with the guys in the Linksys forum, it turns out they've seen this problem with the Xbox 360 before and they advised me to connect the 360 to the router via an Ethernet cable. Works perfectly now. They informed me that the
issue is with the driver for the Wi-Fi adapter on the Xbox 360. Just needs to be updated to be compatible with the latest Wi-Fi standards. I don't really know what exactly it is about the driver that needs to be updated. But clearly the issue is with the Xbox
360 slim Wi-FI adapter and not the console itself, or the router, because after connecting with an Ethernet cable, it's works perfectly.

Does Microsoft have any plans to release an updated driver for the Xbox 360 slim WI-Fi adapter? Running Ethernet cables is not ideal for everybody and really isn't a solution. I could purchase a Wi-Fi bridge, others on the Linksys forums say it works great
and solves the problem, since the Linksys bridge is doing the Wi-FI communication for the 360 slim. This honestly took hours for me to ultimately find out what was going on and how to work around this problem. I don't think other 360 owners will have the know-how
or time to find the same solution I reached and they will assume their console is broken, or waste their time blaming routers. I think it's a good investment for Microsoft for their loyal customers to get this issue resolved.

    Thanks guys.

    :)

Wireless Network Adapter on new Xbox 360S

I had an old Elite console running wi-fi throught the wireless network adapter. Just go a new Slim yesterday and I have noticed the wi-fi signal strength from the inbuilt wi-fi is only two bars. When I had the wi-fi adapter on top of my TV using my old Elite
I got 4 bars my new Slim is under my TV. Will plugging the old network adapter into my new slim boost the signal or will it do nothing at all?

Hi, having looked at the product page, it could just be that your router only has the 5.0ghz signal switched on. If you turn the 2.4ghz signal on in the router settings, then the Xbox 360 should recognise your wireless router no problem.

  5. So the router is capable of both 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz, they are both turned on, I have various devices on both. The Xbox 360 slim can see, recognize and connect to both just fine. I wish it wasn't something simple like that.

The problem is once i'm connected to either signals, I get various error codes depending on which ports I've opened up and whatever else I try. Every advise from the xbox forums was tried and none solved the problem until the guys at Linksys looked into
it further and found the issue is with the drivers for the xbox slim WI-Fi adapter. Bypassing the Wi-Fi adapter with an Ethernet cable solves the problem right away. Others have reported bypassing the Wi-Fi adapter by connecting the Xbox slim to a Wi-Fi bridge,
basically letting the bridge handle the Wi-Fi part instead of relying on the xbox slim Wi-Fi adapter.

There is literally no stone we haven't turned over in the Linksys forums as to what the issue could be. The experts over there are pretty sure the drivers on the Xbox slim Wi-Fi adapter just need to be updated to the latest protocols and that it's something
Microsoft needs to release an update for. I figured it was a long shot since the Xbox One is now out and Microsoft would like for everybody to move on to that.

    Outlaw is right.

The problem is on Microsoft's end with the internal wifi adapter software/firmware. I have the Microsoft 2.4/5.0 GHz black USB adapter with the dual antennas (made for the fat 360) and if I connect it to my Slim then the system updates download fine, especially
on the 5GHz frequency. XBOX One works fine with the router, the Slim's adapter needs some TLC from MS.

Hi Microsoft, any follow up response to this? I'm having the same problem and have come across many different forums mentioning the same thing; that the problem is with the drivers for the wireless network adapter in the XBox 360 Slim.
