Xbox 360 USB controller not being detected

    Xbox 360 USB controller not being detected


    Basically, when I plug in the controller in any of the ports, all that happens is 2 lights on the controller blink once (the player 1 and 4 lights). The Windows sound that plays whenever you connect any device doesn't play either, suggesting it wasn't detected.

    USB ports are fine, and same happens in other computers.

    Troubleshoot using flash drive to transfer files

    Not all flash drives are created equal, however...

    If the drive isn't being detected properly, try powering off the new 360. Remove the USB drive. Power up the new 360, re-insert the USB drive. See if the drive is now properly detected. There's been some issues with USB drives not being detected properly
    during warm-boots of the console.

    Hi,

    There is no driver to download for the 360 controller on Windows 10, because the driver is already installed as part of the OS.

    There are two likely reasons why your controller isn't being detected. It's either because your controller isn't a true wired controller or you've plugged it into a USB 1 port.

    If your controller is wireless please note that you can not turn it into a wired controller with a Play & Charge. It will always be wireless and therefore will not be detected. To use a wireless controller on Windows you will need a gaming wireless receiver.
    Otherwise, you will need a 360 wired controller.

    Hi,

    It's clearly a fake knock off Xbox 360 controller. The official controllers have different packaging. Which would probably explain why it only shows it as USB game-pad rather than an Xbox 360 controller in Windows.

    I'm not sure what 'Minesweeper' game you're playing to test if controllers work on it or not. Do other games detect the controller?

    Xbox Doesn't Notice USB Flash Drive

    Plug in the USB drive and navigate to the storage area. It sounds like it may need to be configured to the FAT32 format so the 360 can use it properly. If the 360 isn't even detecting it at all (aka it does not show up in the list), try a different USB
    port.

    If the 360 does detect it, try this to configure it: support.xbox.com/.../usb-flash-drive

    External hard drive malfunction

    Is your console an Xbox 360 or Xbox One ?

    Double check if the external hard drive is actually being detected, sometimes the USB connection might be loose. If the external hard drive is not detected, turn off the console

    and then double check the USB connector is firmly plugged in, then turn console back on and see if external hard drive appears.

    Also another thing to check... some brands of external hard drive have a power light when turned on. Check if the power light is on.
