Xbox 360 update stopped screen - won't update manually

Hello.

So I recently started using my xbox 360 again, haven't had any issues with my existing games.

tonight I put in a game I've never played before and it required an update, I thought no big deal and clicked for it to update.

after a bit it then came to the Update stopped screen try reinserting the disc, I did that and nothing happen.

When restarting it it goes straight to the update stopped screen and I can't do anything else, the controller does nothing etc.

after researching fixes, I found the required update for the code that was given.

I put it on a usb drive and tried it and it won't update, I tried putting it on a CD and it still won't update.

I am beyond frustrated as all I tried to do was play a game and now my xbox is a glorified paper-weight unless I can get it to update somehow which I've already tried all the options.

Is it a lost cause? I'm very close to smashing it into tiny little pieces.

With or without the hard disk it starts up the same. the Xbox 360 screen comes up and then it goes right to the Update stopped screen, says to try inserting disc again (which does nothing) and it won't do anything else at this point.

Delete and reinstall can work. Have you also tried starting it without hard disk?

I never even played the game that it was updating off of, and I can't even get to the dashboard screen to delete anything.

As soon I turn it on and it goes past the xbox 360 screen it goes right to the Update stopped screen and shows the status code and it does nothing.

try to delete the game completly and try to reinstall the game all over again

I fixed the problem by doing a manual update via USB.

Please help! I have this same issue where I cannot get out of the "System Update Stopped" screen and have tried to insert a USB but It won't pick up that I have inserted the USB. Any help will be appreciated.
