Xbox 360 un/modded? how to confirm without downloading pirated software?!??

So.. I am buying / collecting used Xbox 360s. Knowing, that DVD readers have relatively often been modded to accept "copies" - how to check this? I do not need it, since I have originals. And yet - how to prevent _myself_ from being banned? I know it is relatively hypothetical now, when X360 is basically unsupported.. But was it ever possible to make such "verification on demand"? How?
(I may even have dead laser in DVD, playing only digital copies and still in theory be banned, because of modified DVD firmware, so..?)
(also: please refrain from guesswork answers)

Pirate or otherwise modified software or attempting hardware modification can result in account and hardware bans.

A JTAG/RGH is an Xbox 360 that has been modified in some fashion to play pirated games or run other software that was it was not originally designed to run. You won't find any help here for such a console, regardless of how old it is.

@GG you and your brother did this with your own Xboxes... split the cost of games... that is what it is intended for...

and Full... not pirating if it is legal... pirating is the illegal downloading of software for personal use. The games that are shared are PAID for and are tied to the OWNERS xbox and his name...
