xbox 360 to xbox 1

I am trying to move my backwards compatible games to the xbox 1 as my 360 is starting to show signs of age. I have never had a gold membership on either the 360 or the 1. I do not want a gold membership. I wish to move my saves from the 360 to the 1. I tried
using my xbox 1 external storage by hooking it up to the 360, but it requires I reformat it back. This means it wouldn't work on the 1. I tried saving them all to a flash drive, but this too will not work on the 1. I even looked at trying a free trial of gold
simply to put my 360 saves on the cloud, but after doing some reading on it, the free trial does not give access to the cloud storage. I can not believe that I have to pay money simply to transfer a save.

I have tried calling the customer support number,
800-469-9269, which I might add was extremely hard to find. This is a waste of time as the number simply plays an automated message telling you to go online. Online the virtual assistant is useless. I already have found posts with
no answers to this question by people who have the same problem. I tried to get a real person through the virtual assistant which is also pointless as it only tells me either my question does not qualify for a call back, or it doesn't even give me an option
to put a phone number in for a call back. Needless to say I think this support system is flawed and a waste of time.

To sum up, if someone can tell me how to get a real person or give me a way to transfer my saves without buying a gold membership I don't want, I would be very thankful. This seems like something which could be solved quite easily if I could just find a
living breathing person on the end of a phone.
