    I've gotten my Xbox 360 out of the back of the cupboard in order to get access to some of the save game files it has for games now available on Xbox GamePass.

    My old Xbox 360 profile was there, but after completing all the updates it wasn't updating. Realising that I'd set it up under an old email address that was no long functioning, I followed the instructions of some of the other advice here and deleted that profile. Every bit of information I see indicates it should be easy to just sign in under my current details and everything will download.

    However, when I enter my current email account that is linked to my Xbox One / Microsoft account, I get a message saying, "This email account isn't linked to a Microsoft account. Make sure it's correct, and enter it again." I've checked and doublechecked my email as entered - it's correct. I always get that error message.

    I've cleared the cache as suggested - no change.

    I've also tried using the 'Can't access your account?' option under the 'Download Profile' section. The first time this downloaded the browser, but then it just comes up with a 'Can't connect to the website' screen.

    The Xbox 360 network test comes back green across the board, so it looks like I'm connected. (My download speed came back as 0.01 Mbps, which is odd... - all the updates downloaded a lot quicker than that speed would indicate.)

    Since I don't have an Xbox Live profile that works, I can't really test much else.

    Any suggestions for how to fix this issue?

    Yes, I'm trying to log into my Xbox 360 with my Microsoft account that works fine with my Xbox One.

    My primary email address is a non-Microsoft domain.

    I'll try creating a new Outlook account, linking it as a secondary to my Microsoft account and see what happens.

    If I understood well, you want to sign in with the same Microsoft account that you're using right now in your Xbox one but the error message about not linked account appears. Right?

    May I know if your primary email alias is a non-microsoft domain? (@gmail.com, @yahoo.com etc)

    If yes, please try creating a new outlook.com alias following the steps below:

    Okay, so I created a secondary Outlook-based alias.

    This got me past the email request, but when I entered the password I get the following error: "There's no profile associated with that email address. Check the email and try again."

    I made the Outlook-based alias my primary account too just to see if that would work, but no - I get the same error.

    Recognising that it might take up to 48 hours for the new primary account to be distributed across all systems I've switched back for the moment to my previous primary account.

    Are there any other options to try?

    EDIT: Just to add I've checked I can sign into Xbox.com with my secondary account and it appear that I can, so the account is working, just not through the Xbox 360.

    There is no way that a Microsoft account is linked to a Xbox profile with another email address. The Xbox account is part of your Microsoft account, so both use the same email address to sign in.

    If you linked the Xbox profile from the Microsoft account that has the active Game Pass Ultimate subscription, then it will work. If the Xbox profile you added is from a different Microsoft account (another email address), there is no way around this.
