Xbox 360 System update problem

My 360 started an automatic update when I turned it on this morning, but now it seems to be completely froze up.

It is displaying this error message: Can't read the update from your storage device. Please reinsert it to continue the update. If the problem persists, visit
www.xbox.com/support.

Status Code: 4174 - 417F - 2780 - 1315 - C000 - 0032.

I have two 8GB usb memory sticks and have taken both out and re-installed them, multiple times. I've tried moving them to different slots, and even only having one of them plugged in at a time. I've also tried the guide button, but it won't do anything.
I've also restarted the system a couple of different times, and it immediately goes back to this same screen, even when holding the guide button as soon as it powers on.

System Update Crash/Freeze

I just fixed the problem. Downloaded update to USB drive on PC then transferred update to 360 console via USB drive. Directions here:

Thanks for the suggestion, I didn't see that page earlier. But, it still didn't fix things. As soon as I turn the machine on, it immediately goes to that error screen, no matter what I do. Also, now when I turn it off, I get a nasty little red light
on the power button on the console..... This isn't looking good. :/

Which console are you using? Slim or FAT?

If the slim try removing all external hard drives.

Depending on which console you are using it could be a hardware error or a ventilation issue. If your console is crowded please make sure that there is plenty of space around it for ventilation.

 

We had this same issue all day today. We were able to fix the problem by downloading the upload onto a usb drive and installing it into the xbox. It downloaded and fixed the problem. No more error code, no more red light.

 

Thanks again, onyx. It is a SLIM, I cleaned all the air inlets as much as possible and removed my usb drives, but it still gives me the same error on the update screen. It has been occupying the same place in my entertainment center since I bought it two
years ago, so nothing as changed concerning airflow around the unit, but it was rather dusty.

I'm going to try bears suggestion right now, fingers crossed this fixes it....... If this doesn't resolve the issue, what further options do I have?

Just tried installing the update from a usb drive...... It keeps giving me the same error screen! This SUCKS!

Any other options/suggestions on how to get my system back and running? I already have one black video game shaped paper weight called a WiiU, I don't need a second...... :/

If the steps in the link and trying to update do not work then you should contact phone support to see if it needs to be sent in for a repair.

 

Ugh, I figured that was probably the next step.

Sorry if a got a little snippy in my last post, but this is EXTREMELY frustrating, it kind of ticks me off that a regular update from Microsoft killed my system and is going to cost me money. It seems like there should be someway to do a hard reset of the
system and try the update again, but I guess not.

You weren't snippy at all so don't worry about it. It can be frustrating when the gaming system does not work.

The reason I'm asking you to call phone support is just in case they have some extra steps for you to try beyond the info we have listed.

The only steps Microsoft support will have for you to follow are:

1. submit an online repair order form
2. pay $79.99 or $99.99 for the repairs to have an out of date system that still won't be guaranteed or warrantied
   
3. buy a new Xbox One which was the whole reason we introduced faulty software update into the old Xbox 360 systems to begin with anyways
   

They'll say, "your system is out of warranty we can't repair it for free even if the issue was caused by our broken software/firmware update to the system, sorry!" Sales of the Xbox One must really suck that Microsoft has stooped so low as to completely
render our Xbox 360's useless with a required update in the hopes that we'll just go buy a One.
