xbox 360 suddenly disconnected controllers, front power LED off, still runs though?

xbox 360 was playing fine, then suddenly disconnected controllers, and the front power LED is now off, but the console is running fine.
Anyone have a suggestion what's going on here?
The only thing I thought maybe it got too hot (running on it's side, vent was somewhat blocked). But after 3 hours cooldown, still no controller connection and front power light doesn't come on...but still console boots and comes to "Choose user" screen.

Thanks so much for the reply. Oh, I'm sure official repair is out the window, but any pointers as to what the board is referred to as, name, part number , or anything as such that maybe I could do some homework on it?

The power light is on the same board as the controller interface, this board has likely experienced a failure. Microsoft does not repair 360 any longer unfortunately.

Got it. Is the power supply LED off even disconnected from the console?

The only time my fans on my 360 stayed on after console shut down was when I used a play and charge kit.

Not just the fans but the light on the front of my power brick was still green and not amber.

I would have to disconnect the cord from the back of the controller to get the fans off and then reconnect it.

It was like the console it self was shut down but it was still generating power to charge the battery pack.

Ever since I changed to a wired control pad the problem stopped.
