Xbox 360 stuck on spinning circle during power on.

I barely use the xbox 360, mostly for "Get" the games with gold twice a month so I am not required to enter payment info. Around a month or two back it just spins when powering on and eventually powers off. No error code displayed. I tried updating via
usb drive to no avail. It is out of warranty. The xbox 360 is one of the newer ones that has a very small hard drive. I've even tried removing the external hard disk that is connected via usb. This is my second 360, the first one had the RROD and was an
old original version. So, I have not had much luck with the 360, especially since this newer is rarely ever used.

Any ideas or a known fix?

Ok basically I turn on my xbox 360 and it gets pass the xbox 360 part but then basically gets stuck at a gray screen where a circle is spinning but won't load my dashboard ...just trying to basically fix this issue

 

Xbox 360 won't load the dashboard

Xbox 360 will not load the dashboard. It gets stuck on a grey screen with a white circle spinning like it's trying to load but never does. It won't load with or without the hard drive in the unit.

 

When you say "a very small hard drive", do you mean the Xbox 360 with the 4GB flash storage?

If so, it might be that the flash storage became corrupted, and the console is unable to boot additional system files from the corrupted flash storage.

Try the following:

Turn the console off, and remove all USB devices. Then hold the Bind button (the small button next to the front flap for the USB ports), and turn on the console still holding down the Bind button.

Does the console start up to the dashboard with this method? If so, attach your USB drive again, and try to update the console again.

If the console fails to start with that method, I'm afraid you'll have to
send in the console for repairs.

Regarding the Microsoft Xbox 360 S and all other 360 consoles, our Customer Support team is unable to service these devices anymore.

Not so much a powering off issue, more of a loading OS from powering on. The power off is just from idle time of the OS stuck with the spinning circle thing. Thank you for the reply and sorry this has taking me forever to get back to.

 

Thank you for the reply and sorry I took forever to get back. Tried what you suggested, same result. Powers on, xbox logo loads and then goes to the gray screen with the circle that spins. Around 15 minutes or so, the xbox powers off. It never gets to
the dashboard. Might be just a brick, not worth to send it in. I mostly used it for the monthly games with gold so I didn't need to enter a payment option. Was really surprised how little it was used and my 100% rate of xbox 360's turning to bricks considering
I have cooling fans and that it is mostly powered off.

Now if only the Xbox One or signed into my PC that I would be able to accept the free monthly xbox 360 games with gold without entering a payment option.

Thanks for keeping us updated! I would say to try to update the console again but this time try

removing the internal drive first. If that does not work then try leaving the drive out then connecting the external and updating. The last option would be to insert the internal and update without the external plugged in. We are basically trying to find
the issue that is stopping the console was updating properly. Also, I believe it will have you verify the account and try to add a payment option when trying to download the free games.
