Hello FleshEaterQ, I had the same, if not, similar status code error. To fix this problem, I had downloaded the update to a CD, and used that to install the update to my Xbox 360. I believe you should try it. If it doesn't work, I am truly sorry.

Hey thanks for replying! I'm afraid ive already tried that method, three times actually, and then proceeded to re install the update. Again it was sucessful in installing, however when i try to join Xbox live it says "checking network status" and a few seconds
later it says that an update is required, but it is currently unavailable, and to try again later. There is no error code in the message either.
