XBox 360 sometimes makes a grinding noise when I start it up.

But it only does it about half the time, and if I turn it off and then turn it back on again and it doesn't make the noise it will work perfectly fine for however long I leave it on. But games still play with no problems even when it's making the noise.
And it's not just the normal sound an XBox makes. I know the difference and this is distinct.

I don't know if it's the fans, but I've already cleaned them and it still happens. I'm worried it's the disc drive, since there's also an issue with the disc tray not wanting to open every once in a while too. I'm pretty sure that whatever is going on with
the grinding noise is a different component than the tray though, since they make different noises when they mess up.

xbox making one second grind noise randomly

Well, a 'grinding' noise certainly doesn't sound good. However, my Xbox 360 S will make a short, loud whirring sound sometimes, which is perfectly normal.

 

360 E Trouble

360 makes grinding sound when disc starts spinning, games sometimes freeze. It there an easy fix, or is it impending doom?

 

I don't think there is a concern, because I got a xbox 2 years ago and about 3 months after I got the xbox I got the grinding but it's not as excessive as yours but, it's still fine to this day, but I can't confirm anything.

 

Never mind. Problem is the power supply, not the XBox itself or the fan. Will probably have to get a new one since all the Youtube videos on how to clean one are sketchy.

 

I would not recommend opening one up. However, you can order a replacement unit through the repair page. When I ordered a new power supply it got to me in 2 days.
