Xbox 360 Slow connection

To get things started I will post my info first, then present my questions. (Side Note: I realize there are service problems with live right now, but this problem has been ongoing for quite some time. It has been going on for as long as I can
remember connecting the Xbox to Xbox Live like 5 years ago.) Also, sorry in advance for posting in the wrong area or making it hard to read. I would also like to mention that my connection (for everything) drops every once in a while for just a quick time
like 2 or 3 seconds, if that has anything to do with this or is even an issue at all.

• I live in central Montana (USA) Modem brand & model number: **** TM402P/110
  
• Router brand & model number: Netgear WNDR3300
  
• If Wireless, are you using a white or black external adapter, or an internal (Xbox 360S) adapter? Always wired, but Xbox 360S.
  
• Is UPnP Enabled? Yes
• Do you have a NAT error? If so, what is your NAT type? No, I have it opened.
  
• Any Error Codes you encounter: Every once in a while in a game like Halo, it will say my Nat type is not open.
  
• Who is your ISP(Internet Service Provider)? It used to be Bresnan, then it was Optimum,
  now it is Charter.
  
• After you run "Test Xbox LIVE connection" press “Y” for "More Info”. In the pop-up that appears, what are the following values, if shown? (If a value below does not appear for you, just leave it blank.) W: 0000 - 000B

• Things you have tried: Everything I can think of, DMZ and port forwarding (not together lol), with and without UPnP, Static and Dynamic IP, Wired and Wireless, secured and open NAT, and other router setting changes I probably forgot about.
  I followed the WNDR330 setup walkthrough on these forums, and those are the setting as of now (w/o DMZ, w/ forwarded ports and static IP). I also checked the speed of my 360 (Wired) on bandwidthplace.com and got: 2.4Mbps download, 2.6 Mbps upload, and 30-40ms
  for ping I also checked my windows 8x phone (Wireless) and got: 9Mbps download, 3.6 upload, 45 ms ping, I even checked my Xbox One (Wired with the same wire from the 360 and with no settings on the router and dynamic IP) and got: 13 Mbps download, 3.7 upload,
  and 34ms ping. I checked my friends 360 speed and he got pretty much the same speed as my 360 and he has the same ISP. I have also tried calling the ISP and they have said there is nothing wrong on their end. I have pretty much used up all of my own solutions
  I could think of. Also, just to mention as much as possible, I have tried every step on this Xbox Live Lag Problem and Solutions | Xbox Performance Slow and this

I have at least a couple questions: 1) Why do they not have you test your xbox 360 speed when they have you check your bandwidth?



2) Is it possible for me to get more speed out of my Xbox 360?

3) Why does my internet drop every once in a while?



My third question does not have to be answered but at least the first two would be nice, and thanks for taking the time to read and post.

Slow Xbox 360 Connection

I understand that it lags. It has always done that, even when it came out. But it's not just that game. It's every other game and even downloads from the market place.

Have you tried to connect any medium (Xbox, Computer, etc.) directly to your Arris TM402P/110, instead of being NAT'd through your Netgear WNDR3300, to see if the problem persists.

by design.

 

I have been using the same equipment since the start. I couldn't tell you how often the interruptions occur as they seem to be completely random, I could go weeks without noticing it again. I have tried plugging my 360 in to my modem but there doesn't seem
to be a reasonable difference, and I would have to be connected directly for a long time to find out if this fixed it radomly disconnecting or slowing down or not so I don't think this is a viable option.

Could you also elaborate on "It was made by design to not be reliably speed tested."

So I got to play with this one guy I usually have problems connecting with. I usually disconnect 5 times for the couple hours I play minecraft with him and it slows down heavily. This time though I connected directly to my modem and no problems, but video
and music streaming seems to be the same. Is the problem the dhcp? That is the only thing I haven't touched.

 

Well it would be great if someone could answer my questions instead of just raising more and never coming back. I still have the same questions as 5 days ago.

 

Do you have a computer/Laptop/Mac that you can use to
speedtest and pingtest your connectivity, directly connected to your modem? If so, please run a few tests and post up the outcome.

Visit Netgear website to make sure your router is up-to-date with the latest version of firmware (model number and hardware revision number).

I would also suggest that you make sure 'NAT Filtering' is set to 'Open'. This feature is to be found under firewall settings of your router's web-utility interface. Don't forget to Save/Apply and reboot your router.

My laptop (wireless) gets 13.12 Mb/s download, 3.48 Mb/s upload, and 54 ms ping. My Desktop (Wired) gets 20.39 Mb/s download, 3.18 Mb/s upload, and 45 ms ping. (Still using Bandwidthplace.com)

I have checked the netgear website before, and my computer automatically checks for updated versions. I probably should have said that before. I am running 1.0.45 so I know it's the latest version.

My NAT filtering is open, I think I tried saying that before. Sorry if I was unclear.

You also still haven't elaborated why "The Xbox 360 was made by design to not be reliably speed tested," that would answer one of my questions if you did.

Ok, so I recently got a DNS error. I'm pretty sure I've got these before. So I'm guessing my router is behind all this?

 

I'm entering info manually into my Xbox 360. Should I use the IP subnet mask and Gateway IP address I get from my ISP?

 

What you could try is to use a public DNS (Google), to resolve IP addresses. By doing so, you don't need to statically configure your console's IP settings, but only DNS settings.

Here's how:

1. Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings, and then select System Settings.
   
2. Select Network Settings.
3. Select Wired Network or the name of your wireless network, if you are prompted to do so.
   
4. Select Configure Network.
5. On the Basic Settings tab, select DNS Settings.
   
6. Select Manual.
7. Select Primary DNS Server.
8. Enter 8.8.8.8
9. Select Secondary DNS Server.
10. Enter 8.8.4.4
11. Select Done again.
12. Press the B button on your controller, and then select Test Xbox LIVE Connection.

test (built-in), as you would see on the Xbox One which partly gives you an "estimated" bandwidth, for the relationship between the endpoint (Xbox One), to and from the test server (located in Seattle, WA).

When you're using services through the IE app on your console, to "estimate" your DL and UL speeds, the throughput samples received through this test is throttled, due to the simple task of QOS (Quality Of Service) operations. The algorithm is
quite easy. Don't send heavy traffic to this application (IE), since there's no need for it.
