XBOX 360 Slim Unformatted Drive

My kids said the XBOX 360 we bought new in August was requiring an update and tried it.

I came home to them telling me I had to sign in with my Live account.

It then showed the internal storage as unformatted. Profiles are all gone... saves are all gone.

Now in a loop... format the drive, reboot, gets prompted for an update, drive is again unformatted.

Anything I can do, or does this get shipped back under the year warranty of coverage?

Problem with internal memory

Some XBOX 360 Slims have issues with the internal small memory even if formatted frequently. Everything can run from your inserted 250gb hard drive so make sure you install everything there.

Is yours the slim? If so leave the small internal memory unformatted when it fails and asks to be formatted again. Then just use the other drive.

Just removed and replaced HDD - got cloud option back ....but now the HDD is showing as unformatted !!(

Think I may have a HDD problem ?

Would you be able to try, turning your Xbox off. Then unplug everything from it, including network cables that are also plugged into the console. Once you have done this, please could you unplug your Hard Drive. The link bellow will show you how:

support.xbox.com/.../add-remove-hard-drive

Then after you have done this, put the Hard Drive back, and plug everything back in. Turn on your console and hopefully you should see your Hard Drive again.

If not then, you could try re formatting it three times and see if that works. This has also worked with another Customer lately.

Sorry, forgot to add thatthis is a 4GB unit. Successive formats have brought my usable space to 1.6 GB. I believe it is hosed.

It's not fixed. It is still broken.

 

I have been having a similar problem but when I tried to reformat my hard drive it was unable to reformat so I just turned it off and the center power button turned red any suggestions?

 

The same thing happened to me today. The drive was working fine last night and when I woke up it all went to pot. Is there any way I can fix it without losing all my data?

 

Once the data is gone it is gone forever, sorry.

 

Can I simply download everything I purchased again or do I have to buy it a second time too?

Also, once you have bought something, as long as your using the Xbox that you bought it from. You should be able to re download it. You can also re download it by going to your Download history located in the Xbox Lives Guide.

Sorry, there are a number of us that had the same issue from the last update. I took my hard drive in the Microsoft Store and even they couldn't get it to work.

But after reformatting it did work. I just lots a bunch of saved games. (Yes, some could not be copied to the cloud.)

Have you tried taking it completely out, powering everything down, then booting off a flash drive? Then do the update, put your hard drive back in (power off of course) then see if it will be recognized and/or reformatted?
