Xbox 360 Slim Memory Question

Hello there, i recently picked up a 360 slim from a friend and not even 2 weeks later the Xbox starts up saying some 360 features are missing or corrupt a system update is required to replace them then only gives me the option to restart the Xbox and just
repeats what i said again. to me it sounds like the internal hard memory is gone, would putting in a 500gb hard drive fix this issue or no? and yes the warranty expired, so i am left with fixing it myself. any help is very much appreciated

Thank for your initial answer, which of course raises more questions. With the Xbox 360 I have (not a slim) and its limited memory can I expand its memory by adding an internal HD somehow, is there other options? Or will I never get to play games like BF4
that require lots of memory

 

You won't be able to just put any old hard drive in the console it will need to be one of the designated drives for the slim model. You can pick one up from gamestop either new or refurbished! This should resolve your issue! You can also use a flash drive
up to 32 GB for a storage device!

what happens when you power up the console without it being connected to the internet? Does it allow you to go to the storage section? If so what does it show in the storage section?

 

Yes you will be able to see storage without being connected. Your device should show "memory unit" and if you have a hard drive installed you will also see "hard drive" and the storage space available.

The question was meant for the OP and his/her situation, which may be different then normal.

I'm trying to determine what the state of the current storage device is and continue from the result

So you are not able to check the storage section at all?

In that case attaching an external hard drive may solve the issue, but I'm afraid I can not be certain.

If any of your friends or relatives got a hard drive then you may be able to try that one on your console.

The only other option would be to set up a repair request via
http://myservice.xbox.com and have the console be repaired.

 

bought an internal hard drive installed it, all it does is the same loop cant even get to the home menu error messages pops instantly as it comes off the start up emblem screen

 

but assuming from what has been said before since i cant even access the home screen cause the error message pops up before i can even do anything that there's no point and i should send it off to Microsoft to get repaired which is not even worth it. Ive
seen their great customer service.

 

I personally only had good experiences with their customer service, so I do advise to either contact Xbox support to see if they have any additional things to try out to register the console for a repair request, but it's your decision of course.
