Xbox 360 SLIM loading extremely slow

So first let me say that my xbox is not my main console and that I have a slim with 250gb HDD and I have about 200gb of free space still left. My problem is that my console now takes a minute to leave the xbox logo to go to the dashboard, and the dashboard
takes 5 minutes to load. All of my games are virtually un-playable now because it takes forever just to load them. The only game that does work is Minecraft, there is no lag while actually playing the game but booting it up takes 10 minutes. My console is
about 1 - 2 years old and I have no issues with it until a couple of days ago. Let me explain to you in detail how it started and hopefully someone can tell how to fix this frustrating problem. So I was playing Skyrim, which is downloaded directly from the
Xbox Live Arcade store and that game like to freeze up a lot on me, which forces me to restart my console a lot. But it was running fine for a short while after my last reset and one of my friends came online so I pressed the guide button to take me to the
guide and then I went over to see what he was playing (everything is running perfectly smooth so far btw). After I looked I exited the guide menu to go back to playing Skyrim, but when I did the entire game was lagging to the Nine Hells (I mean it was BAD!).
So I shut down my console again and booted it back up but this time it took an extremely long time to boot up. I have tried clearing my system cache, deleting and redownloading my profile and evening roll backing the last update and still my system is just
a lagging piece of SH**. So if anyone has any ideas of how to fix this problem, I would greatly appreciate it!

Xbox 360 Slim Running Extremely Slow

So this summer my Xbox 360 slim with a 250 GB HDD started running slower than normal. It now takes anywhere from 2-5 minutes to get the dashboard loaded. I can navigate the dashboard but when I select my pins from the dashboard, it takes up to 3 minutes
to load my pins. Then when I try to load Netflix, it takes up to 3 minutes to recognize that I selected Netflix. When running Netflix or any apps or games, the console takes up to 3 minutes to recognize that an option was selected or that a button on the
controller was pressed. This only happens at game menus. Actual gameplay isn't affected. When I hit the center button on my controller to bring up the Xbox live quick menu thing, it can take up to 5 minutes to get that to go away after the center button
on the controller has been pressed again. My console has red ringed three times but it worked after a reboot. I have tried clearing the system cache, formatting my xbox, deleting extra files, pretty much everything short of sending it in to get fixed. Is
there anything that can be done to speed up my Xbox? I'm almost ready to replace the darn thing. Feel free to ask for clarification. I know this post is kinda loaded. I need some serious help though getting my Xbox running well again and any help would be
greatly appreciated.

Well, considering the fact that you've already received red rings on the console it may just be dying and in need of repair or replacement.

However, I have found that having an external drive other than the hard drive can sometimes slow the system down. If you have a USB attached to the console try removing it. I'm sure you'll see an improvement on the speed of the console.
